I'm having trouble with the sweetener too--before SBD, I had been " off "

artificial sweeteners because of pregnancies and nursing, etc. Now that I'm

on SBD, I'm using artificial sweeteners all the time.

" Best " would be whole fruits, very limited juices, no artificial sweeteners

or sugar--and I am aiming to retrain my tastebuds. But I haven't yet :(

I think we

need to also consider how can an artificial sweetener be better than sugar or

fruit juice? I really have a hard time reconciling the fact that we are all

encouraged to eat “natural” foods yet we choose splenda over fruit

juice.

I would MUCH

rather give my family & myself fruit juice than something “unnatural”

like splenda.

Obviously,

fresh fruit is ALWAYS better. Isn’t the whole point to eat foods that are

close to nature?

I think PB & J is probably not a good option for

those of us

on SBD, but if you HAVE to use jelly for something, there are

varieties

sweetened with artificial sweetener that would be " better " if not

good.

I understand

why people choose artificial sweeteners. I couldn’t live without sweets.

I’ve been using Agave syrup which is natural from a plant. I guess I feel

a red flag that we would encourage people to eat something fake rather than

eating natural sweeteners in moderation. For example raw honey is VERY good for

you. After detox maybe people should use these in moderation instead of “fake”

foods. I know what SBD says about honey. I fully understand how the diet works.

I just wanted to voice concerns about the whole “natural” theory.

That was somewhat my thought too . I saw the preserves sweetened with splenda and while they were less calories the carb grams were the same, in fact, there was DeFININTELY something WRONG as 5 carbs is 25 calories NOT the 10 the Polaner's claimed was in a serving of the splenda sweetened preserves so I think there is some misrepresentation there. There is NO way it can have 5 g carb and only 10 calories! So, I too opted for the more natural version..just fruit with no sugars or substitutes added. I try to stay away from nutra sweet as I was drinking a LOT of it when I had my stroke, and since 37 y/o women don't have a stroke every day and they still don't know what caused mine, I'm VERY leery. I admit I have been using some splenda, but I'd rather go with other options if presented. My doc says it is all about eating healthier and no matter the source CALORIES DO COUNT,

so I count my calories too, because if I eat 3,500 calories a day in veggies, I will NOT lose weight no matter that they are veggies! heehee

I don't know if anyone else mentioned this... at least I didn't see

it. But you can make " apple sugar " by grinding up dehydrated

apples. It is great for cereal although I'm not sure it would be

good in coffee!

You can also make your own nut butters. I have a vita mixer and all

you do is put a can of regular peanuts or other nuts in and blend

until smooth (or chunky).
