Lucia is 11 months now, and was in the helmet from 6 1/2 to 10 1/2

months, with very good results. Plagio isn't well-known in the UK

and few doctors know what to suggest (apart from the hair growing

etc). I guess the problem is that some plagio cases are very mild

and are hidden well by hair (you've got to admit, it does help a

bit!), or resolve a lot as the child grows, but then there are all

the moderate or severe cases that don't get better at all, which

makes their life harder trying to determine whether intervention

seems appropriate. Mind you, they could try a lot harder to educate

themselves.

As for a second child, I'm convinced, having talked to my

specialist, that watching for lack of neck mobility and tightness

(not necessarily tort that you can see) is key. He told me that even

with the best will in the world, repo, tummy time or switching the

cot end will not work if the neck muscles simply don't allow the

baby to put their head on the other side. They are all great

strategies, but checking that neck is key. I think that's what I'm

going to do next time (if there is a next time!), and if it happens

again, I'll know that I did my best and there must be other factors

involved. I've seen a few posts here from mums who have only had

plagio in one of their children, so it must be hard to pin down what

was different with one than another.

Anyway- it's good to hear about your experiences- isn't it in the

middle of the night in Australia (it is the middle of the day

here!!!)
