Guest guest
Thanks Jody! I hope I have'nt made it seem that I don't trust Dr. Ponseti's judgement, I really do! It's just that we've come such a long way and it was'nt easy like you said and I just can't go backwards now. Her feet are not overcorrected anymore, they have gone to the normal, neutral possition and look so wonderful, I was just concerned that since they are already neutral now that not wearing the DBB anymore might allow them to turn in past the neutral possition over time. Dr. Ponseti told us that once we discard the DBB most likely will never accept it again. No one can predict whats in the future though, there's always that chance and we just have to trust that we are doing the right thing once again. Thanks for the information and reassurances! Holly and P.S. How long will you continue with Quinn's therapy? Up until about what age should he no longer need it? But that is why, as has said, Dr. Ponseti overcorrects....it will regress back to a normal position from hypercorrection. > > >My opinion is that you are prolly very observant and if you see any significant changes, I know you will be right on it. That is prolly what your doc already knows, so he trusts that you will keep an eye on it. I know he would not have taken out of the DBB if she was not ready. Just keep your eyes peeled. But most of all....enjoy your success. You guys deserve it after all your hard work. > > > " What about all of the other >joints in the body that seem to be loose, is that not an indication in your >opinion of looser than normal joints? " > >Children naturally have loose joints. Some more than others. I can flex Quinn's normal foot until the top of his foot touches his shin. His thumbs also bend way back. My 7 year old is more rigid, but he was just as flexible when he was little. > >>From what I have read, when you over stretch the posterior tib muscle, it shortens the perineals (sp?) which in turn helps them work better. Clubfoot involves the muscles and ligaments. They are the reason the foot is clubbed. The muscles and tendons are what make the joints move. So, since clubfoot is basically shortened gastroc and posterial tibialis groups, I am not sure how a clubfoot can have loose joints in that foot. The tendons are what keep the foot from hyperextending too much. In clubfoot, they are, what I would call, retracted somewhat. Those muscles are overactive and pull the foot in. > >Even if you have loose joints, clubfoot is clubfoot. If it is neurological in origin, the clubfoot condition would dominate over the tendency to be flexible. Now, that is MHO, so certainly not the gospel. > >Much love, >Jody > Footloose and fancy-free! > > > > > > >Rose is officially brace free! Guest guest
" P.S. How long will you continue with Quinn's therapy? Up until about what age should he no longer need it? " Well, we are down to going every 4-6 months, or as needed, to the doc, and about the same for the PT. We no longer do any PT at home. He will wear his DBB until 2-3 years of age, or when he rejects it and no longer needs it. I suspect we won't be going back to the PT but every 6months after his appointment November 1st. He is walking and the brace is really all he needs now. YIPPEE!!!!! Much love, Jody PS- How old is now? Quinn just turned 1!! I can hardly believe it has been a year. Guest guest
Sounds like Quinn is doing wonderfully, I'm glad to hear it! is now 20 months old, I still can't believe she's already this close to turning 2!!!!! I definitely have another toddler in the house these days, thank god my oldest is now in the preschool age group or I'd really be pulling my hair out. Take Care, Holly and Re: Footloose and fancy-free! > " P.S. How long will you continue with Quinn's therapy? Up until about what >age should he no longer need it?
