Guest guest
-- Welcome to the list. I'm just stasrting my fourth week on Atkins, and have lost 12 lbs. My very next goal is to break 200. As for vitamins ... I started taking vitamins before I got onto Atkins, and didn't see any need to switch. I wanted to make sure that I was taking enough of this and that so I looked in Dr. Christiane Northrup's book. She has a section on metabolism, nutrition, vitamins, etc., (she even recommends Protein Power ). So, I'm taking 6 honking horse pills a day, plus an additional 3 grams of vit C, plus an additional 30? mg of Potassium, plus garlic. I break this down into 3 sets to take after my major meals -- otherwise it feels more like a vitamin snack. It is a good way to get another pint or so of water down. Good luck with the induction phase! Gail in Chicago In a message dated 8/15/99 10:01:08 PM Central Daylight Time, milkman@... writes: << I haven't started the diet yet. Iwill on Wednesday. Do you have to take the actual Atkins vitamins or will a good multi-vitamin do?Do you take extra chromium picol.?Just curious- How long have you been on the diet and how much have you lost? >>

Guest guest
Correct me if I'm wrong, Aubrey, but am I right people shouldn't automatically run out and start taking vitamins the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E,K) without checking out their levels first? At least, one shouldn't take any mega-doses. These vitamins aren't excreted as easily as the water soluble vitamins so you can get toxic levels if you decide to take mega-doses without needing them. When I wasn't absorbing nutrients as well, I was encouraged to take more D and E, but my A and K levels were just fine. Also related to vitamins -- what do the gurus say about the different types of vitamin E available? My father-in-law was saying something about various studies showing the E combinations were demonstrated to have lots of benefits but that the cheap type of vitamin E on the shelves (di-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) has less benefit. Is there any truth to this? Just curious, Philip 30, 3 children, church music director, master's in opera, PhD candidate in clinical psychology PSC 94, listed 6/03...waiting.... Guest guest
I don't know anything about the combination ADEK vitamin, but I do know that Quantell's serum levels of each of these four vitamins changed with nearly every lab draw, and didn't always change together. He took four individual vitamin supplents, and dosages were tweaked often. Pam (mom to Quantell, 13, dx 1996, tx 2001)
Guest guest
, Vitamin E is excellent but for those with any problems clotting, like thin blood or low platelets it should probably be avoided.
