Guest guest
High ammonia levels in and of themselves do not mean that you have hepatic encephalopathy. Memory loss is very subjective unless and until it can be formally tested by a psychologist or other specialist using specific testing protocols. You should be tested after stopping the lactulose. If there is no evidence of hepatic encephalopathy (and by the way, a live in partner or spouse can confirm this diagnosis without testing) you won't need lactulose. If HE is present than there are other treatments possible, such as Neomycin, a non-absorbed oral antibiotic. Get checked or ask your wife/partner if you have one.
