Jeannie,

Well we already know that has autonomic problems. Yes you are right

about even in the 70's and 80 " s. has to be real careful, even doing

gym at school. It does not take much to get him over heated.

ohhhh this is very interesting!! We've " joked " that the boys are baromicly

challenged... their physical challenges seem to " agree " with the weather. If

it's chilly or a bit hot " poof " the need for the walkers and wheelchairs are

not optional but if it's a " fine " day they are able to move (and talk) with

very little trouble (well considering the ataxia stuff). Hum???? What type of

doctor would address this part ???

Hey, Romona -

I suppose it would be considered under the realm of the neurologist, as the

problems stem from the autonomic nervous system. BUT, alas, I don't think

that there is much that can be done about it . . .

On the other hand, one of 's neurologists (the mito specialist) told us

that if 's sweating episodes increased, we could check his Tegretol

level, as increasing the Tegretol if low in the therapeutic range would

possibly be of benefit in controlling the episodes. He hasn't been having

them as frequently of late, so I can't tell you whether it worked or not.
