Guest guest
Hi Jules. It sounds like you are very anxious to get started with 's helmet, especially after what happened with . I felt the same way when we were waiting to get my son Braden's DOC band. It seemed like it took forever to get going with it. We intended to pay up front and deal with insurance later, too, but Cranial Technologies informed us that our insurance company required a preapproval, or they wouldn't pay at all. Whether or not that was true, I'm not exactly sure. We learned that the preapproval process (whether the band was initially approved or denied) takes about 10 to 14 days with our insurance company (UHC) so we opted to wait it out, and within 10 days his band was approved. My suggestion would be to make sure that you're not eliminating the obligations of your insurance company by moving forward. Also, once insurance approved the band, we had to wait 2 weeks for a casting appointment, so you might want to make that ahead of time, in anticipation of hearing back from the insurance company, if you decide to wait for an answer from them. Braden is just 3 days younger than (born on 2/5/4), and he's been in his band 2 1/2 weeks now, so is not that far behind us, and I think you have plenty of time to get some good correction with him. Good luck, whatever you decide to do! Guest guest
Jules, I'm glad your starting the process for . 9 months is still relatively young, but as you say time is of the essence. My only advise would be to double check your insurance policy. They may not allow you to appeal if you don't allow them to deny you first. I know it's stupid but you may be left with no appeal option. I would set up everything with the ortho and have them try an initial insurance pre-cert. Let the ortho know if they can not get a reply in X days that you will go ahead and pay for it yourself. Try all you can to get the denial first. mom to na DOC Grad SCjadegnan <jadegnan@...> wrote: Hi, My name is Jules and my younger son, , will be receiving a helmet soon.He is 9 months old and has a uniformly flat head in back (called brachycephaly I believe). Guest guest
i'd try to put it through the insurance too. give them x amount of days to approve or reject it first. when i called i was told ours would only be approved only after 2 months of pt for his tort. well, we went to our pt evaluation and then to the cranial facial doctor and he wrote the script for the helmet. went to the orthotics and within 8 days we had approval. and the day they approved it was his first day at pt, we didnt even do 2 months yet. now it's only for 70% since it's out of network but it's better then nothing. you never know what the insurance company will do, but give them a chance they may surprise you like mine did. and no usually insurance companies arent as easy as mine (trust me i was shocked) but you never know till you try. kathy > > > Hi, My name is Jules and my younger son, , will be receiving a > helmet soon. > > He is 9 months old and has a uniformly flat head in back (called > brachycephaly I believe). Guest guest
Hi Jules…you have had a lot of great feedback and advice so far so I just wanted to say welcome to the group. I’m glad you found us. Becky (’s mom) in Pittsburgh, PA New here - son getting helmet soon Hi, My name is Jules and my younger son, , will be receiving a helmet soon. He is 9 months old and has a uniformly flat head in back (called brachycephaly I believe). My older son had the more common plagio on one side and was never treated as the pediatrician didn't feel it was necessary and we didn't know any better. is now 27 months old and while his head has rounded out well he still has ears that are slightly uneven and I wish we had had him evaluated when he was younger. It took a while with but we finally got a consultation with a cranial/facial surgeon which was 2 days ago. He said is quite severe and should be helmeted. Since he's already 9 months old we don't plan to wait for our insurance but will pay up-front and try to get reimbursed later. Has this worked for others? We can't afford to wait for months with for an approval that might never come because we have such a limited time to get any true benefit from the helmet. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with it all and am frustrated that I didn't push for this earlier especially given our experience with our older son. Thanks and I hope to get to know some of you through this process. Jules 02/02/04 For more plagio info
