Guest guest
Most kids get good correction with one band, but it's not uncommon to need two. There are a few members on here who's infants needed a third one. It all depends on the severity and the correction needed as well as the infants age (really young ones seem to grow out of them rather quickly). Unfortunately, the cost is for each band. Guest guest
I can only speak about DOC bands-- It is pretty common to have more than one band, but often after the first band is finished, the remaining plagio is quite mild and it is really more of a parental choicce than a necessity to re-band. A lot depends on the headshape, type of band, age of child and parental compliance with the treatment. Sometimes when banded very young (we were banded at 4.5 mo) you will have such a growth spurt that you will get a lot of correction, but outgrow the band before you have achieved a full result. With older kids who are growing slowly, sometimes their treatment extends beyond the life of a band (usually 4 mo) and they will need another. Again, often enough correction has been achieved that it is the parent's choice. Occasionally, a child regresses, but that usually involves torticollis or another causal issue. Yes, each band costs an additional $3000 and you have to get a new script, letter of mediacl necessity, and insurance pre-certification. In our case, my daughter had enough correction from her first band (whch was covered by Aetna) that her remaining trouble was mild and therefore uncoveded by our insurance. Unfortunately, the remaining problem spots were around her face so we felt we needed to do another one. If only a partial flat spot in the back remained, with no facial asymmetry, we probably would have considered 1 band to be enough. , Tulsa > > is it common to need more than one band? and if so is it 2500-3000 > dollars for the first one and the same amount for each additional > one? > thanks/ angela / el cajon ca
Guest guest
, Yes, the price is the same for each one. I don't think it is very common to need more than one, unless the plagio is severe or the child is in a band very early and grows out of it. In our case we are considering band #2 because our son received his first doc band at 10.5 months and his growth slowed down so much since then that we have not gotten enough correction to be satisfied. Don't get yourself worked up just yet, get through the first one and stay positive! Once your child gets the band and you see how easily they adjust this will get easier, I promise! & Aidan in CT 13 months, doc band 7/21 > > is it common to need more than one band? and if so is it 2500-3000 > dollars for the first one and the same amount for each additional > one? > thanks/ angela / el cajon ca
