Guest guest
Hi there and welcome to the group!! Oops, your husband has not given you good advice. First, let me tell you that the reason you are feeling fatigued again is probably because you are on too low a dose for your body's needs. When you introduce thyroid to your body, the pituitary gland knows this, and sends a message via the TSH to you thyroid gland to decrease it's production. BUT, the problem is that your thyroid gland is already producing a pitifully low amount due to being diseased. So, with the message to produce less via the TSH, you are now perhaps more hypo than before. It's time to raise that dose. As far as the thyroid shuttting down, your thyroid will never get better. In fact, in most of us, it gets worse. SO it doesn't matter if taking Armour " shuts " your thyroid down (which I'm not sure it does anyway). It's a matter of " do you want feel good or not " ?? Because the only way to feel good and alert is to find that optimal dose of Armour!! My current optimal dose is 3 grains. Some are on a little less; some are on a lot more. We all found our optimal dose by seeing what took away our symptoms. And on my optimal dose, I discovered that my TSH is .009. That does not mean I am hyper. It means I am letting Armour do the job that my thyroid cannot! Hope that helps!! We are here for you!! Guest guest
Dr. of the 's Syndrome fame, talks a lot about people staying on a thyroid med and putting their thyroids " to sleep " permanently, but in the case of these autoimmune diseases, where the antibodies are so high (as in my case) the poor little thing is eventually going to go to sleep on it's own. Since I'm so far advanced and already feel so bad, I would say that I will opt for putting it to sleep and taking enough thyroid in order to feel good. We certainly have not unlocked all the mysteries of this disease, and who knows what we'll find out in the future, and, of course, what our doctors won't know until lightyrs after we do, lol. Until someone is going thru this illness, they can't possibly understand what it's like. Compounding pharmacies and a question Hi, I have been taking Armour thyroid for a few weeks now and am new to this group. I wanted to say that my husband is a compounding pharmacist and has been compounding hormone replacement medications for over five years now. It is inperative that you use a pharmacy that specializes in hormone replacement because there are hundreds of formulas that a compounding pharmacy must need to know to individualize each and every patients dosage. Not all compounding pharmacies are capable of doing this. You shuld see our lab as we have pharmacist and technicians making capsules and troches all day long for hormone replacement. I love watching them. There are a few doctors here that write prescriptions for hormone replacements like its going out of style. A lot of the scripts written have testosterone in them to help increase the libido. It must be working well as most patients are estatic at the results in the bedroom (so they tell us). Im thinking of trying some myself in low dosage form. We can compound medications in all dosages and in capsule form, troches, creams etc. If you are needing medications delivered to you we can mail order them. If you would prefer someone in your local area we can most likely direct you to pharmacies that are VERY reputable. You may e-mail me privately with your current location or concerns to see if we can help you. By the way, I have been taking the armour thyroid 2 grain. 1 grain (60mcg) at 8:00 am and 1 grain(60mcg)at 1:00pm. I was doing super for the last two weeks but am now feeling somewhat fatigued again. I can not sleep very well at night either now. Has anyone experienced this. I am thinking of having my doctor up my level but my husband says too much thyroid medication can cause my body to shut down on making any thyroid on its own and I will be in worse shape then I am feeling now. I thought I would feel 100% alert forever but it feels like I am already leveling off. Does this have anything to do with my adrenal gland not working properly has anyone experienced this? I hate to ask my doctor these questions and bug him and I dont like to hear it from my husband because although he makes the medications he himself does not have the symptoms I am experiencing so its hard to relate. Plus I like to hear it from people who have gone through it themselves. Any advice?
