Hi all,

I am getting worried about & Isaac getting any correction at

such a late age. they are now 16mos. we are still waiting(for

insurance) to get jacob's 2nd DOC and isaac's 1st. we hope to hear

from insur this week. I was wondering when is surgery needed? and

what would they do? the boys have the large foreheads, ears are

misaligned, and one cheeks looks bigger and one of their eyes looks

like it is being pulled back. they actually look kinda like the boy

(sorry forgot name) who's picture is in the b/a surgery file. same

everything. hopefully surgery isnt something we'll have to do but i

was still wanting to know about it. just in case i need to mentally

prepare myself.

Thanks all.

Misty~ & Isaac 16mos.

Hello Misty... I really dont know the answer to your question but I

would try to get a hold of Hadley (Bo's mom). Maybe she can share

more details of their story... I know she posted a long message

explaining their choice of treatment; maybe you can try and do a

search of old messages... try checking the messages that where

posted on or around the date she posted Bo's pics (march 15 2004).

As a mom I can only tell you to follow your instinct. You are the

only one that know how severe is the plagio of your twins. I

wouldnt want Ignacio to go through this type of surgery... or any

type of surgery. But you know what you are dealing with. I know

what you mean about the window of opportunity shutting down...

Have you checked if their head sutures are open? I dont remember if

I have asked you this before.

The only comment I could give you is that the decision is in your

hands. If I were you, I would try to get a hold of Hadley so she

can share their experience and then you would know from someone that

went through this first hand what to expect.

Changing the subject... did I tell you last night that

finally stood up on his own? Great way to start his 16 month... lol

Hi Misty,

For the most part, surgery to correct plagio is a thing of the

past. It is necessary in cases of craniosynostosis, but with

helmets being a non invasive alternative to plagio treatment, that

is the way to go. If you miss the window to helmet treat, I suppose

surgery would be the way to go if the plagio is really severe.

Sixteen mos is not too late to see correction though. Hannah's

third band worked great, and she started it at 15 mos (pics in the

DOC before and after section). Is there any way you can just get

the bands now? How much longer will it take?

Misty,

I'm so sorry that you are having to go thru this. Perhaps you could

get a referral and appointment with a pediatric cranio-facial

specialist to get some advice and get a better perspective on

things. I think that surgery is for only very severe cases. I hope

that 's experience has given you some comfort. Best wishes and

please post whenever you need us!
