Guest guest
The casting was the worst part for McKenna and me. It didn't take long and didn't hurt her, but she certainly didn't appreciate it. The orthotist put two stocking like things over her entire head, cutting out a small opening for her eyes/nose/mouth. Then he put wet plaster strips around her head. I have pictures of them casting her, if you're interesting in seeing them I can post them to her album on this site. Guest guest
My son jacob is currently wearing a DOC band. The casting process in itself was worse on me than it was on him. It goes very quickly, less than 15 minutes. If you go and click on " Files " , there is a folder named " casting process " . Click on that, and you can see step by step photos. All bands have a similar casting process, so you can at least get an idea of what to expect. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty, possibly ruined. The plaster may get on your clothing. If your baby takes a pacifier or will sip on some juice, it's recommended that you take something of that nature to soothe her. A gentle lullaby sang by Mommy will calm her down too. good luck on your casting, and remember that we are always here for you!! kelli mommy to jacob banded 12/23/03 - 01/28/04 and again 08/19/04 - 10/15/04 (graduation day!!) --- In Plagiocephaly , " sbcollns " <sbcollns@y...> wrote: > > Can someone tell me what they do when they cast the kids for a > helmet? Guest guest
I just added pictures of Kenna's STARband casting under the " McKenna " album. Like the other poster said, the casting is the worst part and was far worse on me than McKenna. > > > > Can someone tell me what they do when they cast the kids for a > > helmet? Guest guest
Tami- I really would like to see the photos of the casting. I am not looking forward to it and I feel Hannah will just cry the whole time. Thanks for preparing me. Shari > > > > Can someone tell me what they do when they cast the kids for a > > helmet? Guest guest
I'm not sure if you saw my previous post, but I posted her casting pictures in her " McKenna " album. It looks bad, and really it is, but it's so quick and doesn't hurt them at all. I think it took about 15-20 minutes total. It was more tramatic for me than it was for her. McKenna had her helmet placed just after she turned 9 months old. She's been in it for 5 weeks and hit a growth spurt. They're already talking about removing it in 2 or 3 weeks. I'm not ready for it to be off. I was so nervous about her wearing one, but now I love the security it offers when she's cruising around and banging her head. Good luck. Email anytime if you want to chat with someone that's a few steps ahead of you. Tami tflorio@... > > > > > > Can someone tell me what they do when they cast the kids for a > > > helmet?
