Hi,

Yes, the ridge is normal. Ask your ortho and he/she will give you a

detailed explanation about it. My baby had eczema on her scalp too.

One of the old mods told me to get Aveeno oatmeal bath, make it into

a paste. At the beginning of her bath I'd smear it all over her

scalp, before I took her out, I'd rinse it. Her scalped cleared up

great, I was amazed.

Dee,

A couple of days after our son got his band, we also noticed a ridge

and pressure spot on our baby's head where the band closes. We took

him immediately back to the ortho because his ridge, pressure spot

and the place where the band closes is on the side of his head that's

already flat. We were very concerned that this would cause

additional flattening on the side that's already flat. The orthotist

and the orthotics company agreed that the opening for our baby's band

should be on the opposite side so as not to cause pressure and any

additional flattening on the flat side, so they recast him and he

should get his new band in the next week or two. In the meantime,

he's wearing the first band on a limited basis to get him used to it

and to at least begin some correction.

I am having the same problem. There is no red spot but my son has a

ridge where the band closes. This is also the side where the head

is flat. I was told that they always put the opening on the side

that is flat AND both Rose (who left CT in NJ) and (who took

over) told me this " ridge " is just fluid and will go away. Now I am

worried that the flat spot will stay but I don't want to recast!!!!

Hey there.

had the same problem and is having a little of the pressure at

the opening now b/c the band is getting small for his head. Our OT

said that this is pressure and should be a sign of adjustment - the

shaving out of the foam inside the band. Every time this happened

and she adjusted the growth inside, the pressure/ridge/redness went

away until closer to the time of his next appt. As far as the

opening, I've been told and have seen on this board that the opening

should be on the flat side. I don't know why though. A suggestion

would be to make sure that he doesn't need adjusting. He could have

hit a growth spurt ya know!!! Yeah for those. :-)

's first spot went away after a couple of days, the body gets

used to this and absorbs any fluid buildup. But always note that it

could be a sign your little guy is growing. Don't worry about the

recasting, I don't believe it is necessary - but always call and make

sure.
