Guest guest
Hi! I take it in combination with ursidol. I don't seem notice it doing much for me. As I understand it it bind the liver salts and is suppose to help them leave your system so as to decrease itching. I guess maybe it works for some. Good Luck. Guest guest
I took it for a while when my itching was at its worst and it helped minimally -- my bilirubin (which was in the 20s at the time) came down a few points when I started the Questran. I was also taking ursodiol and naltrexone. It was a bit annoying to have to time the doses so the urso and questran aren't taken together. Guest guest
Jon, You have to take the Questran every day in order for it to work. (You can't just take it when you itch.) After seeing what other PSCers said about Questran, I guess that I was lucky that it worked for me. It took several days for Questran to take effect, but it lessened the itching enough that I could sleep at night. I also soaked in an oatmeal bath each night before bed, which I think helped a little also. Be sure not to take Urso and Questran at the same time of day, since the Questran interacts with Urso and lessens its effect. My problem with Questran was trying to find something to mix it with to avoid the gritty texture. I did best by mixing it with applesauce, but now, I will never choose to eat applesauce again... Good luck with the itching. Guest guest
I tried a variety of mixes -- the better it is mixed, the better it tastes. I used a handheld blender thingy and mixed it in just about anything -- orange flavored milkshakes were okay (for a few days, at least). Eventually, I switched to either cherry kool-aid or orange juice. I'd put the kool-aid, questran, and some benefiber in a plastic bottle, shake it up really well, chill it, and shake again before drinking. I'd make the day's supply in the morning and have all of them ready for later. My wife and I noticed that you want to make sure and rinse out your mouth after you take it each time. Otherwise, it is really hard on your breath. Also, I believe it can be hard on your teeth of you let it sit in your mouth too long.
