Shewwwweeee....stinky little head!!!

I am at my wits end on how to keep my wee man's little head from

stinking so bad! I scrub the heck out of the band every morning with

alcohol and a toothbrush as recommended, but that just isn't getting

the job done. The smell lingers and the band just WILL NOT stay

white. I also wash his hair with J & J baby shampoo. (His skin is

too sensitive to use anything with bolder fragrence.) It has been so

rainy here in Texas that I have not been able to try the " sit it in

the sun " thing. Any other suggestions?

I have heard that the band/helmet " odor " can be pretty impressive,

so I sympathize with your situation!

I didn't band my daughter (we repo'd), but I'd thought I'd post and

throw a few things out there that I have read about previously to

see if they could help. You've probably already tried them, but

here goes:

Are you using a high % alcohol? Here is a link to 99%:

What about sweating or moisture? I don't think there is a heat wave

happening down there in Texas right now, but if you think that your

baby is still having some sweating or moisture from wearing the

band, maybe that is contributing to the odor issue. I have read

post about other parents trying this powder with DOCbands, but make

sure to check with your ortho about using it if you decide to give

it a try:

About drying the band after cleaning it, have you tried placing it

in front of a fan to dry instead of toweling or air-drying?

Some parents have posted that cleaning the inside of the band with a

rough washcloth works well.

I wish I had some better tips to help you, but hopefully other group

members who actually battled the odor issue will post soon!

I usualy try to scrub the band 2-3 times a day, breaking up the hour

that it is alowed off. My daughter sweats a lot so multiple

cleanings need to be done. I use the Aveeno baby shampoo as

recomended by alot of the other moms and it helps to de-stink

's head and never bothered her skin. I even noticed that it

dosnt leave her skin sticky after rincing her like some of the other

bath products out there. LOL I wonder if using scratch and sniff

stickers would help to cover the stink. LOL just a thaught.

Thanks for the tips. I just went and bought some 91% alcohol during

my lunch hour today. I am hoping that makes a difference. I am

going to ask our ortho about the powder because my son does sweat a

lot! (he is very hot natured).

LOL...scratch and sniff stickers...BRILLIANT! hee hee. I am going

to try the multiple cleanings because my son sweats a lot too.

Hana's head stunk for about 2 weeks and then by the grace of god went away! I

dont know

where you are at with treatment...so I hope you have better smells in your

future. Hana's

head was FOUL for what seemed like an eternity! It got better, once she

acclimated to the

band.

That's one thing I don't miss, stinky head. lol

Have you tried drying it under a fan (on high) after cleaning it?

What % alcohol are you using? The higher the better! You can get 99%
