Guest guest
Dearest Dr. ranitmd, We really need help getting this message out. I think I can speak for everyone here in saying " go get'm " . I do not know what angle you are sharing with your article, but we really need a doctor to help get the message to other doctors about the fact that this non- invasive treatment should be easier for a parent to choose; No different than getting braces for an 12 years old. I hope you will find someone from this group for your article. I hope you will focus at least part of your comments on the mild cases where parents battle to get a doctors buy-in and prescription. Please come back and post your article for us under the 'Files' link, so that we may all enjoy it too! Post a note so we will know it is there. Guest guest
Hello Dr. Ranit Mishori, I just wanted to add that I think it is great you are doing this. I wish more medical professionals would take plagiocephaly more serious, and not just send us Moms on the way with " it will round out " . I also had the feeling that peds believe all we Moms want is perfection, and if you are in the situation of trying to get your baby help that is the least of the problems. I'm sure not many of us think perfection vs. normal. Guest guest
Hi Doctor, I think what you are trying to do is great! My grandson Chase has been in a band since April, he had severe plagio and tort. His ears were so far off he couldn't wear eye glasses if he had to. His eyes were on different planes (sp?) and he couldn't focus, he couldn't even wear a baseball cap when he got older his head was so crooked, and the insurance companies say its cosmetic. As a grandmother I had never heard of this. My daughter noticed the problem and started research and found the DOC office in Cleveland and went for the free evaluation. Her doctor never brought it up, but she did write the script needed for the band as soon as asked for it. My other daughter is a family physician in Medina Ohio and seeing what Chase has gone through is much more aware of this problem with her patients. Sorry for rattling on so, but I feel this is very important for a physician to get this out to other physicians. Thank you! Billie Anyone from NYC? Guest guest
Dear Dr. Mishori, Thank you so much for writing an article on plagiocephaly! I contacted local media and they seemed interested but did nothing. They seemed to think it does not affect enough of the population or isn't life-threatening so not article-worthy. However it *does* affect a large % of infants now due to the Back to Sleep campaign. NEVER did our pediatrician at our well-baby visits tell us to keep our son off of his head more when they saw the plagio progressing worse and worse. I hope that you include that primary pediatricians need to be more proactive and SPECIFIC about how to reposition your baby safely should you see this developing. The pediatric neurosurgeon we saw felt that our son would grow out of it to some extent and that helmets just speed up the process. He was not going to write the prescription until I firmly requested it. I believe that most current baby books do not even mention plagio. So it isn't life-threatening but it is EASILY PREVENTABLE and treatable. Thank you so much for your consideration. Good luck and we would love to read your article when it is complete.
