Guest guest
Aubrey, What bologna…..you know perfectly well it’s not what diet you have been following that has you looking so good…..It’s Caroline!! Barb in Texas - Son Ken (29) UC 91 PSC 99 -----Original Message----- From: Caroline & Aubrey I'm the healthiest 50 year old in my neighbourhood. At a recent reunion/celebration of the hospital I used to work at, no one recognised me because I look so much fitter and healthier than 12 years ago. Guest guest
I don't write much but am alwas interested in everyone's conversations and learn a lot from all the info you give. I was surprised when I read that you had to wait in ER so long, I always thought Dr's got prompt attention, guess thats not the case. I recently got my report from my yearly Hep exam. my Alk Phos was down to 280 and my bilirubin was normal, my MRI showed a little increase in strictures, that is as low as my alk phos has been since I got on this merry go round, I am taking 7 1/2 mg Prednisone which has in the past brought it down. I just recently had some surgery, 3 wks. ago, cystocele, rectocele and rectal prolapse, the surgery went o.k. but I am not sure of the help it is going to be. The cystocele & rectocele is much improved but the rectal prolapse doesn't seem that much better. Am I being impatient? I had hemorrhoids ligated several times in past with no success, did exercises, 6 mo. with no help so this was the last help and I decided I couldn't put up with any longer. The Dr. said all the muscles had given away, maybe this is as good as its going to get. I did have hemorrhaging after the prolapse repair, all night, until they went in and did surgery again the next day. I wonder if PSC has something to do with this, I had diarrhea for about 10 years back in the eighties, I think that was when it started. I also have dermatomyositis which affects the muscles, maybe that is part of it. Of course the fact that I am 70 and had 3 pregnancies makes a difference also. Just wondered if you had seen much of this surgery and how successful it was. Glad things are going well for you and Caroline and hope you are doing o.k. now. Missouri has some of your Canadian weather now, cold, snowy and windy but we can look forward to spring. Best wishes from Missouri Martha
Guest guest
I'm glad to be of help, Patti. I'm happy that we had met before so we had a comfort level and knew each other a bit. Mike sounded great when we spoke. It sounds like he's doing as well or better than I did and that he's going to be home in short order. It's nice to hear that you're also getting support back home. I hope you go to London before he gets the all clear to go home to Halifax. It would be good for you to see the Transplant Centre, Mount St. Joes and meet the team in person. You'll also get a small feel for the city and be more relaxed when you and Mike return next summer for the World Tx Games. I told Mike he had his tx just in time, for two reasons: (1) he'll be able to compete/attend the World Games as close to home as it's likely ever to get and, (2) his liver was near the end, and if he said no, he probably wouldn't have made it. We talked about these reasons and he's fully cognizant of them. As I said, he sounds great. I'll be in touch when you're both home to talk about what you and he can do to make this new liver and new life the best it can be. Cheers.
