Guest guest
Hello there My daughter had tort, and then plagio. She was delayed as well. She sat at about 91/2months (still with pillows) the rolling I think didn't happen till close to then as well, and only in one direction. Crawling at 11 1/2months, and she didn't walk till her 16th month. She had mild low muscle tone. You might want to ask your PT what he thinks about your son's muscle tone. It is very common for delayed children with torticollis to develop plagiocephaly. I'm not sure about the other way around though. As for the band, it is good to know that the baby treated there turned out well. We have a folder in our Files section called " Getting a good fit " maybe you can look at that, and I was looking for another one with questions for the ortho. Sorry to say that I couldn't find it. Maybe someone can help me out on that. Here are two of the orthomerica's site on ?s to ask. They are the maker of the STARband. http://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/faq_orthotists.htm http://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/faq_parents.htm I hope that helps a little. Let us know how the casting goes, and good luck Sandy Willow's mom Wishing a Merry Christmas > > We are getting ready for our son to receive the starband. Guest guest
I agree with Sandy- it is more likely that the tort is causing the delays, and/or that your child has low muscle tone (low tone is common for kids that have tort) and that is contributing to the delays. My son has tort, plagio and low muscle tone. The tort resolved, but we are still in therapy becuase the muscle tone caused gross motor delays. He rolled at 6-7 months, sat at 10 months, crawled at 14 months and walked at 19 months. Dara > > > > We are getting ready for our son to receive the starband. Guest guest
Hi, Yes, it is very important to have only an experienced ortho treat your baby's plagio. Go here for a list of questions to ask a potential ortho: http://www.cappskids.org/QuestionsForTheDoctorAndOrthotist.htm Scroll down to Questions To Ask The Orthotist/Clinician. We have had more than one member use an inexperienced ortho and have their baby's plagio worsen. Experience is so important. Your son's delay is from the tort. My baby had tort and was delayed. She had Early Intervention and it helped so much. She was very behind at one point and now she's right on target. A lot of the tort babies here are delayed. What is the name of the place you're going to be using? Hopefully we have a member who has used them. > > We are getting ready for our son to receive the starband. Guest guest
The place that I am going to go is called Westcoast Brace and Limb, I've been told during my initial consult that they do have several children that they treat, in fact the ortho was the one that recommended the site, so I am hoping that all will be well. stripes6060 <taime@...> wrote: Hi,Yes, it is very important to have only an experienced ortho treat your baby's plagio.
