I am not convinced that folks do well on synthetic T4-only meds.

Granted, I can look at my sister-in-law---she IS doing a LOT better

than I was on T4-only meds. She has more energy and she doesn't have

the low-grade depression. BUT, she also has high cholesterol, and it

makes me wonder. I haven't had to opportunity to ask if her stools

are hard.....LOL

The gal across the street from my store--she also appears to do well

on Synthroid. But, I'd love to be a little floating cell and see what

else is probably going on with her body.......

Perhaps it's this: some folks do have better energy and results on T4

that others. But I bet even those folks have side issues related to

being on the T4 meds.......

Janie, always wondering...

what they need out of a synthetic.

Yes, you are absolutely right in questioning this. I have found that many

people actually think that, as they age, they aren't supposed to feel good, so

they ignore all these things going on with them. They really don't realize that

the things that are evident on lab tests (like the cholesterol, heart problems,

sleep problems, depression, etc...), are very related to the thyroid, so they

just accept this. I understand that one day I'm going to drop dead of old age,

but I don't feel that we were meant to feel our worst, just because we're aging.

Plus, look at how many young people are on our thyroid boards. They certainly

aren't aged!

Don't forget that there is a synthetic T3/T4 combo that people do

very well on - Thyrolar. I would call it comparable to Armour and the

other naturals. (Thyrolar, though, does have more T3 in it so it

wouldn't be for everyone.)

they need out of a synthetic. I look back and see how absolutely

horrible I felt, hardly being able to get out of bed, etc....Yes, I'm

still working at it, but at least I'm able now to think and move on

the Armour! It's just taken extra long to bring mine up because of

having to slowly discover other problems that go hand-in-hand with

chronic hypo, like the anemia, antibodies, etc....

Shirley your description of puffing out like a piggy really made me

laugh & one earlier of Janie gnashing her teeth at some endonob

bobbins too....

Just wanted to add in about the side-effects of Sin-throid.

My Mum just started on synthroid over a year ago.

She is extremely sharp, brilliant memory, very clever.

Now she is certain these things are not a sign of Hypo, or old age,

but a side-effect of Sinthroid.

1. She is like a zombie in the morning

2. She is forgetting things that she never did before - names, what

she's been doing, dates

3. She forgets who has said what to her

None of this happened before she went on Sinthroid - albeit she was

hypo & had bad digestive issues that have cleareld up, but she has

really noticed the mental dulling.

She is trying to get her Doc to presribe her Armour & I'm badgering

her until she gets on it too.

Love Fee with gritted teeth & hackles up!

Hi Fee,

those symptoms that your mother has may not be because of the synthroid, they

could be because she is undermedicated. I had all those symptoms before I was

on medication (and I am considered sharp too!)
