Guest guest
If you feel uncomfortable using the videos, then by all means don't use them. This will be one of the first times of many that you have to go against the flow to do what you feel is right for your baby. It just prepares you for tougher choices you have to make on her behalf for the future (not letting particular people babysit, sheltering her from particular friends' children, etc.). It may seem hard but it's great practice for the more difficult situations that are to follow. I think TV in general is too stimulating for babies. But, the Baby Einstein videos seem to be like a mobile. It's great for tracking and brain processes as the colors change or the baby sees things disappear behind objects and reappear etc. But, of course, it's nothing more than you could just do yourself with little objects in front of your baby at home. You could even develop a little 'curriculum' by you yourself watching the video to see what they are doing and then just do simulate them in real life with your baby. You could even share that with your friends and your baby could watch them later when you feel more comfortable - if ever. Again, if you have decided you want to leave out T.V. for a while (or forever for that matter), go with it and don't let anyone else make you feel uncomfortable with your decision. Guest guest
The experts do say avoid watching tv before 2 and if they do watch tv make sure it's something educational. If you hold off on playing the videos for your child just explain to the friends that when you've put the movies in for your daughter to watch she's not seemed interested in them yet, though you know in time she'll soon grow to love them just like their daughter. I avoided tv with my oldest probably until she was about 2 1/2, and then she barely watched TV. She's 4 now and freaks if i change channels now and her " show " is on-- even if she's not watching it. Guest guest
I might not win mom of the year award for letting Jonah watch videos from an early age, but sometimes it is what saves my sanity (or at least allows me to blow dry my hair). At about 18 months he became really interested, even more so than in his toys, and this has become a challenge. I have an industrious little boy who when I would not turn on the video player, figured out which buttons to press and he turns it on himself now. I think the baby einstein videos are a good choice- I find them educational, esp the ones for older babies. Jonah has speech delays and I think the videos have actually helped him. he also LOVES sesame street. Guest guest
We don't put jack purposly in front of tv, but it can be a stretching tool. If Jack shows interest, i hold him in a position so that he has to turn his head far to see the tube. I also received the tapes. I had no intention of opening the package until later, but after the discription of them being like a mobile, I am going to watch. Guest guest
These videos are the greatest, all my kids love them, and yes, I do let my baby watch them too and I certainly don't think I am doing her any harm at 14 mos! (She also loves Booh Bah). It's the only way my two year old will let me cut is nails and so will Angelina as well. My 4 yr old dd who says they are too "babyish" still manages to watch it from start to finish. What great friends you have....enjoy them and don't worry! , mommy to Angelina in Canada -----Original Message-----From: [mailto:lindsayvandellen@...]Sent: Thursday, December 16, 2004 6:27 PMPlagiocephaly Subject: Baby Einstein questionFor Christmas some friends gave set of the Baby Einstien videos. is almost 4 months old. Guest guest
I agree some of the videos are really mobile like. They are just simple objects - great music - and little kids - which babies love to watch. We have about 4-5 DVDs and rarely use them (mil doesn't know how to work DVD player). If they can catch his interest they could be a great stretching tool. Put his seat so that he has to tirn to watch - great idea! mom to na DOC Grad 2/04 tort Resolved South Carolina www.thefilyaws.comdixondara <dixondara@...> wrote: We don't put jack purposly in front of tv, but it can be a stretching tool.
