Guest guest
I would not recomend waiting, but if this is the only way tx can be initianted, then 13 months is not too old. CT bands kids upto 24months. we have had kids at an older age receive good correction. Good luck with the insurance. I would still go ahead and schedule all appointments now though, b/c appointments usually are pretty far out Sandy Willow's Mom Torticollis resolved Cranio Germany Grad --- In Plagiocephaly , " colejo74 " <colejo74@y...> wrote: > > My twins will be 1 year old at the end of January. Guest guest
Just to let you know you are not alone, our baby boy is also 13 months and we will be getting his first band. But definitely, sooner is much much better if there is any way for you to solve the insurance issue. Guest guest
I agree, the sooner the better but if you can't get 'em in helmets til later, know that many have had great success after a year old. I have UHC and they paid for my son's helmet. Have you appealed with BCBS? How about if you just go ahead with the helmets and set up a payment plan, while appealing with BCBS? I don't get the whole denying helmets thing. Nothing makes me more upset than that. Ugh. Something should be done about that... Good luck and keep us posted! Guest guest
Hi there I'm in the UK and don't understand how this insurance thing works (our NHS is equally useless), but I wonder if there is any way that you can band them earlier. Although people do band up til about 18 months (starting), to be honest that is quite unusual and most specialists would far rather band a younger child. Skull growth slows down at the end of the first year/the second year. Now that's not to say it can't be effective, and plenty of people have seen good correction from banding past 12 months, just that to be on the safe side, the sooner the better. Obviously that may not be possible, in which case you should just do the best you can to get everything organised to go as soon as you get the go-ahead. I think that someone else mentioned severity- and certainly if the plagio is severe, banding should happen as soon as possible, just because there is further to go than for milder cases. It is difficult to know whether it is severe- if you look in the Links here you will see Cranial Technologies severity assessment tool and that can be very helpful to let you know what to expect. Sorry to be so blunt about it- but you did ask if it mattered to wait, to which the answer is that if that is the only way treatment can happen, that it is still very much worth doing, but the sooner it starts, the better the possible outcome. Good luck with it all and let us know how you get along. hannah (mum to Lucia, London, UK) Cranio grad > > > > My twins will be 1 year old at the end of January.
