Guest guest
I have been watching my son now, day 3 in his helmet. He seems to have figured out very quickly that banging his head no longer hurts. He doesn't even seem to second guess falling over onto things. I know this is a long time away, but I am worried that when he finally graduates, which the Orthotist has projected to be in about 4 to 5 months, he will have gotten so used to his helmet protection that he will have a hard time adjusting to not running into things with his head and really hurting himself. Has anyone had a hard time getting their child to understand the concept of hurting themselves once they no longer have the helmet? I guess I am already looking forward to getting this thing off of him and he has only had it 3 days. Guest guest
Connor was in his helmet for 3 months. He got out of it as he was starting to cruise. Not great timing, lol. It took a little while for him to figure out that it hurt without the helmet, but he didn't have any major spills. Guest guest
My son was a year old when he got his helmet (not walking at that time) and was in his helmet until he was 18 months. He had a couple of nasty spills when he was wearing his helmet, one so bad that I am sure he would have wound up in emergency if he didn't have the helmet on!!! After he got it off it took only one or two light " bonks " to figure out that he wasn't wearing his helmet and yup, his melon hurt when he hit it! I consider the helmet to have been a lifesaver for my son in more ways than one! , mom to Ethan Local Helmet Grad Dec 2003 Vancouver, BC > I have been watching my son now, day 3 in his helmet. Guest guest
Hi there I don't think it is a problem. Lucia has just come out of her helmet about three weeks ago, and is cruising round no problem with no major bumps. I think it was harder when they have their one hour off- she seemed to get more bumped and bruised then, I guess becasue she was used to the protecion. Once it was off for good, she readjusted no problems. Babies and children are incredibly resiliant and I think they just adapt to the new circumstances. Hope your son doesn't destroy the house with his new games! Hannah (mum to Lucia, London, UK) Cranio grad > > I have been watching my son now, day 3 in his helmet.
