Guest guest
Hello friend, I think is beautiful just the way he is. First of all, I am the plagio police. Second of all, I have met him first hand and I certainly didn't see it like you are. But...you are mommy and you have been making the best decisions for so far. Is there any way that you can sent photos of him to other cranial tech offices for their opinion? I know that's rather sneaky but they don't have to know that he's already been in a helmet and you can get their free opinions. I did this with Angelina at two different offices in another province. If I know you, you are not asleep but waiting for responses to your plea!! Just like I am waiting for any replies to my post on the tort board (not one, sigh) just got off work. Talk to you more off line... , mommy to Angelina 11.5 mos in , B.C. tort, local helmet 07/09/04- future wife of -----Original Message-----From: tortibaby [mailto:sugrill@...]Sent: Sunday, September 19, 2004 11:39 PMPlagiocephaly Subject: Aarggh! I can't sleep! Help please!Could any of you mommies help me out here? I'm having a little meltdown. As many of you know, got a DOC Band late, at 17 1/2 mos. The folks at CT were just wonderful and rushed his band, and he had some good growth during his time in the band. His numbers measure normal now. In fact, I am stunned by how much correction he got at his age. I wasn't expecting such good results. He looks basically normal now. Before he got the band he was starting to look weird. By weird I mean that if you looked at him for a while, you got the feeling that maybe he was developmentally delayed even though he obviously wasn't. There was a cognitive dissonance when you looked at him. He had that odd smashed look that a lot of delayed kids have but was bright and active.... Am I making sense? Anyway, now he doesn't look like playdough. However, he still has asymmetry! It doesn't show up in the standard measurements, but it's pretty obvious. One eye is still significantly smaller than the other and a different shape. He also has that wonky hairline I keep mentioning. Today I took a Magic Marker and drew a line right over each eyebrow, and then a line directly above at his hairline. One side is half an inch different from the other! That's a pretty big number for such a little guy, and it will only look more noticeable as he grows. The same goes for his eye asymmetry. I am pretty concerned about his vision because of it. I don't see how he could see straight with his eyes like that.Somebody please chill me out! When I look at this beautiful boy I keep focusing on the asymmetry and his hairline and not that little grin. Worst of all, I think he is aware of my scrutiny. He wouldn't let me take pictures today, and yesterday I was explaining something about his hairline to my mom and he put his hands over his face to hide. So now I'm not only making myself crazy, I am freaking out my little guy!Up until now I haven't cared about the remaining asymmetry. I have just been so happy that he got the correction he did! Goodness knows what he would look like if he hadn't had the band, and pre-band he looked cross-eyed in the smaller eye. But the remaining asymmetry is not insignificant and I seem to be starting to obsess over it. Somebody give me a kick in the patootie and tell me to count my blessings!I am going to bed and maybe I will not be so crazy in the morning. Guest guest
Hi Can I be perfectly honest? I think is not just completely normal looking, he's a rather good-looking little boy. I really was surprised when I looked at the picture NOT because of any asymmetry- but precisely because there is so little there. It just isn't noticeable or striking to other people in the way it appears to you. I think perhaps what is happening is that you have been stuck in the plagio mind-set for so long (and rightly so), it's quite hard to let go. You have spent a long time obsessing about his head and it is difficult to stop. But you have achieved great results and need to sit back and enjoy yours and his success. I think basically you have just had a bad day. You know you are getting things out of proportion, as you say, you are normally happy with 's( really lovely) little face. But please please hide the Magic marker- i don't think my face or anyone else's face in the world could stand up to it's scrutiny!!!! Guest guest
I've had a look at 's photos and I really can't see any eye asymmetry at all. He does have a bit of a wonky hairline, but my son has that too (and he's brachy, not plagio - you can clearly see the hairline in his front-on photo under Toby in the "Our plagio kids" section). I also think the hair on his right side naturally sweeps over (just like Toby's) but the hair on his left falls forward. If you wet and comb both sides backwards is there still an asymmetry? Anyway, apart from that, unless you'd drawn those lines, I really don't think I'd have noticed the hair line at all. Are you perhaps just so used to looking for plagio symptoms and signs that you are now looking for perfection? Who's to say that if he never had plagio he'd have still had the same hairline? I think he's a gorgeous looking little boy and I can't see different shaped eyes at all. Personally, I think you have nothing to worry about. , UK Toby, 9.5 months, severe brachy, STARband minus 9 days and counting! -----Original Message-----From: tortibaby [mailto:sugrill@...]Sent: 20 September 2004 07:39Plagiocephaly Subject: Aarggh! Guest guest
Hi , Take a couple deep breathes!!! step away from the child and put the marker down. He looks great. Did you ever consider that he might have a colick on the right side? To me it looks like the hair and not the head. Does that make sense. Of course I'm only looking at pics and not cute in person. He is adorable. Please stop worrying and stop beating youself up. Your a great mommy!!! You have done wodnerful things for and will continue to. {{{{HUGS}}}} mom to na DOC Grad SC PS I'd send a piece of chocolate but I already ate it tortibaby <sugrill@...> wrote: Could any of you mommies help me out here?
