I'm sure it probably is an underdiagnosed condition, at least in its

mild form. The more severe cases usually involve a malformed or lack

of an ear in addition to assymetry, and can result in hearing, speech

and breathing problems. The plastic surgeon did say that after cleft

palate, it was one of the most common problems they see. The way he

explained it was that inutero, there was a lack of cells in that area.

The bone arises from soft tissues and a lack of soft tissue can

inhibit growth. That's pretty simplified, but that's the gist of it.

The doctor seemed hopeful that it won't get any worse as he grows,

although I guess it really depends on how his jaw grows from here on

out. Basically he said that if it doesn't get worse, and the jaw

assymetry is noticable, they could inject fat and/or add an implant to

his jaw line to make it appear normal. Of course that probably

wouldn't be done til at least school age.

I'm hopeful, with his plagio mostly corrected and his tort resolved,

that things won't get any worse.

of both the front of his face and back of his head seem to be still

shifted. I am also taking him to a cranial facial plastic surgeon to

investigte further. I am very concerned and wonder if you could give

me any more insight about this condition...I have looked it up on the

internet and it looks like he does have some of the

characteristics...do they think it will get worse as he grows? Any

info would be most helpful...is this another underdiagnosed condition

like plagio? BTW, my son does have plagio and tort.
