Hi Sue:

Based on the anxiety and agony I hear you are feeling now, my vote would be to make the decision to keep going and not look back. You may always second-guess and torture yourself if you do not push through to the end of Colin's treatment. If Colin is comfortable in his helmet, what's 2-4? more weeks when you have come this far? Then you're done and you'll never question yourself for having cut the treatment short.

Think of it as preventing future angst.

Of course, I say all this without any experience at all in seeing/dealing with my kid in a helmet. ;) I am sure that you will be forwarding this message back to me when I have the same dilemma !

I have another plea -As I mentioned to Krissy in my other post, I am having ups and downs constantly every day now. I am getting so anxious to be done with Colin's STARband. I do only want the best for him but I am struggling with my own feelings about it and am thinking he does look much better. We see the ped neuro on Weds. and I am looking forward to that. I have another ortho visit scheduled for 9/21 and then the exit scan for 9/29 but I don't know if I will "make it" until then. ??Weekdays like today are better bcz he is at daycare so he will be wearing it for most of the day. I think the post from Amy sort of prompted me to feel like at some point you just gotta let go of the remaining imperfections and let nature take its course...So, I don't know what I am asking of you by posting this, but

Hi-

I just read your post. I just sent you a response. I am SO sorry you

are having mixed feelings. I feel the same way. I think that is why I

am weaning off the band. It helps me use to seeing him without

the helmet on. It is to the point when he has it off, he looks SO

different to me. I obsess about his head without the band. I keep

thinking I will catch another growth spurt before he outgrows the band.

My Neuro. told me to relax and be happy with his little head. I am also

very mixed. I thought when we got to the end of helmet therapy, I would

be whipping that helmet off. It is far from the truth. I guess habits

are hard to change. My husband is not having these feelings. He would

love to get rid of the helmet. Is your husband acting that way?

Been there!

If it helps, its now been a year since my twins were banded (had the

helmets for 3 short months, felt like forever), and I can now say

after a year of teething, solid foods, acid reflux, walking, talking,

saying " no " and " mommy " for the first time, those three months that I

thought would never end, felt like a million years ago. Time passes

so quickly, so much more wonderful things will happen in the next

year, a few more weeks will pass before you know it.

The funny thing is that my children never ever had a problem with the

helmets, never bothered them, never tried to pull it off, were never

phased by them, so all the angst about getting them out of the

helmets came from me.

Sue,

Hang in there. You can make it until the end of the month. You only have 2 weeks to go. Look how far you have come.
