Re: 10 week update

Hi Sue. Since the Starband is an active band, I would think 4 weeks

is too long to go without an adjustment. Keep in mind I am not an

ortho! But at 20 months 's band was getting shaved out every 3

weeks. Six weeks without an adjustment for an 11 month old sounds

like a passive helmet. I would say trust your ortho but as we all

know, they can make mistakes. You aren't there to make friends,

right? Pitch a fit and make them explain exactly why he doesn't need

an adjustment after four weeks of growth. Or, you could ask nicely.

That sometimes works.

I just keep thinking about the little girl whose band was not cut for

months and her head grew taller through the top opening in the band.

She was still sooo beautiful, but you could see how tall her head was.

's ortho from CT said that once the band comes off, it stays

off. No part time or night time wear because it won't fit after a

couple of weeks, since his whole head will be growing.

Do what you gotta do to get hubby to buy you a new camera. We want

pics!

Sue, if it were me and there is room in his band, I would leave it

on as long as it it viable. You never know, he might get a HUGE

growth spurt around his 12 mo mark. Good luck with whatever you

decide though. I do find it a tad strange that it hasn't been

shaved any the past few weeks...

Hi all --

My name is , and I am new to this group. I am learning a lot from all of you... thanks!!

Our third child, Jake (7 months old today), has plagio, and was just scanned for a STARBand.

We are scheduled for his first fitting on 9/20. Our ortho told us that this helmet is a passive helmet and explained what that meant -- it will contain growth on the "bulged" side and leave a void for growth on the flat side.

I am confused by the comments about active and passive STARBands.... are some STARBands active, while some passive? Does it depend on the needs of the child?

Sue,

I'd have to assume his Starband is active. It does sound really

loose though not to have any adjustments for that length of time.

The good news is that it doesn't have to be super snug to work well.

Obviously its working pretty well and you've seen the benefits

already. If your ortho is leaving it up to you when to graduate him I

would go ahead and stick with it until he grows out of it.

Our ortho probably would have graduated two weeks ago, but

since there was a little room left she okayed it. It was fairly tight

near the end though so I didnt want to push it.

I figured might as well get as much correction as humanly

possible.....and you know what? I really think part of his remaining

flat spot rounded just a tiny bit. It was worth the extra two weeks

even if some of the time I didn't have it on him 23hrs ; )

I'm dying to see new updates!! Hurry Hurry!

Sue,

No adjustments in a months time has me concerned. wasn't

banded until she was almost 11.5 months and and everytime we saw our

ortho which was every 2 weeks, her band was shaved some. What is your

ortho saying about this??
