My son has one. See his pictures under Colin W. I think it looks

alot like a STARband. It is the orthotist, not the band, that is

most critical. We have good correction, but I might keep going for

more correction and a bump on the back of his head. We have had some

fit problems, but still good correction, and no redness. Just droops

over his left eye at times and shifts. I do think he grew too much

between scanning and fitting, but it is working, so I have not pushed

for a new scan and a new helmet. I figured that would drag out the

treatment time and it is hot in the summer.

mish, Colin in Hanger band about 1.5 months, 6 months old.

Hey ,

They don't have any information or pictures of their band on the

Hanger website at www.hanger.com unfortunately! I'm glad you got a

response from someone whose baby is actually in the band so that you

could see a picture of it.

I called once and had a Hanger ortho send me a pamphlet on the

Hanger Cranial Band, and it does indeed look a lot like the

Starband. Perhaps the ortho could mail this same pamphlet to the

ped??

Here is the link to the FDA website with the approval information

for the Hanger Cranial Band, including age range protocol:

Hanger Cranial Band FDA approval document (scroll down for

indications for use stating 3 - 18 months of age)

http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/pdf/k001669.pdf

Also, the AAP, although conservative in it's evaluation, makes this

statement for age range for treatment with cranial orthoses (note

they don't say there isn't correction after one year of age, just

that there is less) If the link is two lines long, copy and paste

the entire link to get directed correctly:

>>The best response for helmets occurs in the age range of 4 to 12

months because of the greater malleability of the young infant skull

bone and the normalizing effect of the rapid growth of the brain.

There is less modification of the cranial configuration when used

after 12 months of age.<<

http://aappolicy.aappublications.org/cgi/content/full/pediatrics;112/

1/199?fulltext=plagiocephaly & searchid=QID_NOT_SET

There is also a study showing effectiveness of banding babies at

older ages:

Treatment of the " older " infant with plagiocephaly

This study documents that even though early intervention is best,

treatment can still be successful even if the child is older than 12

months of age.

http://www.aans.org/education/journal/neurosurgical/sep00/9-3-5.pdf

Maybe sharing this info with the ped will help, I'm not sure, but I

just thought I'd throw it out there.

She saw Dr. Seru at NW Pediatrics up near Northgate Mall. She was

very nice and personable. Didn't like me too much but I was being a

buttinski so who could blame her. She was nice to the mommy, though.

Who is your ped again, just in case? Could you email me directly? If

I meet more mommies in this lady's situation I would like to have the

info on hand. Dr. Seru is in her insurance network, though, so she

can hopefully get everything paid for.
