Guest guest Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 Today was Zander's visit with the Pediatric Plastic Surgeon. It went very differently from what I had expected. The Dr. said Zander's plagio is mild, but that he does have torticollis and that his ears are a bit asymmetric. I didn't think he had either of those. He recommended PT for the tort. and left the decision of whether to band or not up to us. I was glad I didn't have to fight him for the prescription, but at the same time, I was really hoping he'd either tell us to do it or not do it. Giving us the decision makes it all so much more difficult, some how. It took dh and I all of an hour to decide. I had originally thought I would give repo a couple more weeks, but decided against it. We're going to go ahead and have him banded ASAP. I just look at it like...I don't want him to be 17 with an odd shaped head and feel guilty that I didn't do anything about it when I could. Now I wait for the Orthotist to call us back for an appointment for casting. Hopefully, we'll get in within the next week or two. They said it would only take a week from casting to his fitting. One interesting thing happened..The Dr. was explaining Plagio to me (as if I had no clue what it was) and mentioned that Plagio ONLY affects the shape of the head. He said, " You'll read on the internet that Plagio causes jaw and sight problems, but that's just not true. " I wanted to say, Oh, really? According to Whom? Why can't doctors just get on the same page and stop contradicting each other? Also, as we arrived, another couple walked in with a baby, who obviously had severe Plagio. It made me wonder just how many Plagio babies there are out there....a lot more than we all think, I'm sure. I wanted to ask them about their little guy and recommend this group, but I couldn't work up the nerve. I could tell they noticed Zander's plagio as well. So, now it's on to the next step! Thanks so much for everyone's help so far! It's been invaluable! Sherryl Mommy to Zander ~ 02/03/04 Plagio/Bossing On to Casting... Quote
