Guest guest
I am so glad you posted this. I have had the same experience when we go for treatment in Dallas. I have to spend the night so we wander around quite a bit in malls to kill time. I think in cities with CT locations, people see our kids out and about frequently. When I go back home to Tulsa, I get more looks. I've never seen another banded child, EVER. However, once I explain what the band does, tons of people have commented that they have a friend/relative whose child has a flat spot. Many seem sad that they didn't know there was a treatment option. I have twins, so I am used to being watched/stopped and honestly haven't noticed any additional gawkers. I got over feeling self- conscious before the helmet arrived. If anything, we are a little more invisible since some people are worried about talking to us. They still look, but they don't stop to talk as much. They no longer let their kids grab my babies in their stroller, which is a BIG silver lining. I've joked with friends that maybe we will leave the helmet on in public after treatment stops, just to scare off the more aggressive well-wishers. I totally agree that word is getting out. No one has been rude, without good intentions. Oh sure, we have the stares and puzzled gawks, but inevitably, I would see one person or another saying " how cute " and explaining to the person next to them what the band is. I guess I am good at following people's body language and have really been paying attention to how people respond. Occupational hazard I suppose! > Well, I think word is getting out. Guest guest
Hi Joanne, Great to hear such positive feedback on the band. I've always thouht that deco on the bands makes people more receptive to it. Looks less clinical I guess. Guest guest
That's great to hear Joanne. I've actually never taken him to the mall in it. He has helped me save money! LOL Just Home Depot and that was fine. Guest guest
I can say for sure that is the only baby in the Seattle area with a DOC Band. They have Clarrens, and not many of those. Still, people are really nice. They just worry about the adorable baby who maybe had surgery or has seizures. As soon as I decorated the helmet, though (see under " " ) people just thought it was a costume. The other day an employee we see all the time at the pet store said, " So, is that like his favorite hat? He wears it a lot. " I laughed my head off. Glad you're having a good experience. It can be really embarrassing for people to be stared at. I hope the word keeps going around about these wonderful helmets! , 21 mos, DOC GRAD TODAY!!!!!! --- In Plagiocephaly , " Joanne Muench " <jojotalk@c...> wrote: > I just have to tell you, I had a completely positive experience in public today.
