Guest guest
Dear everybody, I have twin children. A pigion pair. My children were supposed to be born on 14 April 2004 but were born in January 2004. They were in hospital till early April 2004. I noticed flattening in the back of both thier heads about a few weeks after we got them home. The shape was ok when they were in hospital. I asked around and everybody said that the shape would correct itself in a few mnoths. It has been a few months and the shape hasnt got any better . I saw in a picture that thier head resembles exactly a picture of plagiocephaly skull in a baby magazine. I am very concerned. I dont know whether it is too late to correct thier head by simple posture adjustments. I dont know if they are candidates for those helmets and other head gears. I am living in Mt Gambier which is in South Australia. I am also not sure where in Australia is a place dealing with such condition specifically. I am thinking about flying to any big city to any specialist who can give me proper guidance about treatment. Am I being " jumpy " here and over reacting or am actually I making sence here? I would appreciate guidance . With best wishes, Imran Khalid
Guest guest
Hello Imran, Welcome to the group. I'm glad you found us. Congratulations on the twins, and I'm glad to hear that they are finally out of the hospital. I'm not really sure about the skull growth, if it is any diferent for preemies, than for reg term babies. My daughter was also premature, but only by 5wks. Unfortunately most of us received the old " it will round out on its own " speech. Some do, but for the most part they don't, and certainly not on it's own anyway. It is hard work. I'm thinking your twins are 8ish months old? I have listed the tx options for Australia. Maybe you can call the location nearest you, and get an appointment scheduled for a specialist. They will be able to tell you about the severety of the plagio, and then do their recomendation. Can you post pictures of your twins' heads top down view, and maybe a side view? Of course a cutie pie pic as well. here are the tx options I found for Australia. Their might be more, but this is what we had listed in our database. Please let us know if and where you get an appointment. I'm not sure how Australia works though. You might need a referal there from your ped. Guest guest
Welcome. No you aren't being jumpy. You are a wise and concerned mom and it is good that you are doing some research. Many dr's say that it will round out on it's own, and it will to some extent. I didn't want to take the chance because my son was rather severe on one side but basically flat all across the back so I pursued helmet therapy for him. He was 9 mos of age when he started. Your babies are not too old if you do want to pursue it and have resources that you can see soon. Good luck. Sue and Colin F. 11 mos. Guest guest
One of my twins is currently in a band. I will add that the younger the child, the more they tolerate the band and the less time they have to wear it. My daughter was 4.5 months when we were fitted in August and I think we will be done in October... I don't think she even knows she has anything on her head. The only time it bugs her is if I take it on/off. My girls were also due in April, but were born a little early (37 weeks). I think the doctors will go by the adjusted age, so you have a little extra time. Good luck --- In Plagiocephaly , " Imran " <imrankhalid15@y...> wrote: > Dear everybody, > > I have twin children.
