Hi everyone,

Well our casting appt for Jakob is going to be a week from Monday.

We saw our ped yesterday for the twins 1yr check-up. Both boys are

getting so big! They also decided that they would start walking this

week...YIKES! Jakob and had been taking steps since June but

now are walking across the room and such...it is a crazy time in our

house.

Now onto my current questions...while we were at our peds office he

said currently there aren't any long term studies about banding and

its effects on the brain. Is this true? Are there any long-term

follow up studies yet? He also said that Jakob might be

uncomfortable with his new band but most kids don't seem to mind

them. He said there is also a chance that Jake's band will mess up

his balance and make him revert back to crawling. This is rare but

could happen he said. Is this true? Do kids regress developmentally

b/c of their bands? Can it cause them to be more off balance? What

about headaches...Have any of you (especially those that banded

later) noticed any signs of discomfort or headaches from the pressure

of the band on the head? (Sidenote: We are going to be using the

DOCband)

Well, thanks again for your input...I am just a concerned mommy and

want to make sure I covered all basis of banding before we cast next

week.

Take care everyone,

Jen and the gang...

Hi Jen:

Check out this study, this should answer your questions. My DOCband

grad is now over 4 & never had any problems with headaches from

banding. I've been w/this group 3.5 yrs now & I have never heard of

any connection w/banding & headaches, so I wouldn't worry :) Now if

only I could get rid of my migraine this morning speaking of

headaches! :)

This study demonstrates that infants follow the normal growth curves

with respect to head circumference, length and width during the

course of treatment..

I second Debbie--no probs with the DOC Band. In fact, my son seems to

feel very secure in it, like his head is being cuddled all the time,

and gets TICKED when I take it off to clean it. I had to take it off

in the airport last time for security to check it, and he howled. It

was very cute and the security folks got in a dither and just stuck

it in the xray machine.

As for balance, it weighs about 6 oz, so for a few days he had to

work a little harder to keep his head up. He did not regress to

crawling, and he falls constantly anyway, so I didn't notice a

difference (except I could breathe easier when we went boom because

the band protected his head!). I think his neck had to get stronger

to support the extra few oz, though, so it was to his benefit in the

long run. And he's looking amazing!

Good luck!

Hi Jen,

I see you've already been pointed in the direction of some studies,

but I wanted to add to the developmental issues. My Hannah has been

banded from 4.5 mos and she rolled over for the first time just one

day after she was in her band full time. She crawled not long after

that and was walking by 10 mos, taking steps at 9 mos. It has not

slowed her down at all! SHe is now 18 mos and doing great. Are you

going to the Clinton CT then? We've been going there for over a

year now and just love them there! You'll be very happy.
