Dear Forum Members,

Sub: Mapping of NGOs to be part of strategic interventions for

addressing `Migration and HIV/AIDS in India'

IOM, International Organization for Migration, is an inter-

governmental organisation in the field of migration and works

closely with its partners in the international community to: assist

in meeting the operational challenges of migration, advance

understanding of migration issues, encourage social and economic

development through migration and uphold the human dignity and well-

being of migrants. IOM is committed to the principle that humane and

orderly migration benefits origin and destination countries, as well

as migrants and society.

IOM, as part of its Migration Health Assistance and Advice is

implementing a project on `Preparatory assistance for development of

a programme on safe mobility and HIV and AIDS' in partnership with

UNDP. The main objectives of the project are to develop better

knowledge of the risk factors for HIV infection in the context of

migration, to address the HIV prevention needs of migrants and

mobile populations, including prevention of new HIV infections

within this population, to develop an action framework for reduction

of migrant's vulnerabilities to HIV and incorporate prevention

strategies in the implementation of NACP III which will further

implement HIV prevention services targeted to migrant communities

and to strengthen collaboration of UN with NACO in accelerating the

implementation.

An important component of this project is to map and list out NGOs

who are working in HIV/AIDS, migration or both. The mapping exercise

is basically to identify potential NGOs and to build their

capacities on prevention aspects, care and support and strategic

interventions for addressing " Migration and HIV/AIDS " management

aspects of programmes related to migration and HIV.

In this context we would like to request the forum members to

forward the details of suitable and interested NGOs who can

contribute in this effort. This exercise will help us to shortlist

35 NGOs operating in different states in India. Interested

organizations are requested to contact:
