Guest guest
(and group!) I would love to see additional info added to the database; it certainly is a tremendous help to group members wondering what might be available within a realistic travelling distance, that's for sure! If you are a current group member, please take a look at the Helmet/Band Database in the Database section of the group and confirm that your location is listed. If you would like to add a location, you can do so yourself, or post to the board and I will be more than happy to add it for you. I am always available by email as well! Where is the Danmar location that you mentioned in Oregon? When I started work creating the Database a while ago, I did speak to the Danmar rep who was willing to list the locations to which he distributes Danmar helmets. I have not received any communications from him of updates of new locations, so I may have missed a new location that a member knows about. We had a fairly recent post about the Danmar location in Michigan, but I don't recall any other recent mention - did I miss it? The Danmar helmet is a Passive helmet, FDA approved for use in infants 3 to 14 months. Hanger has over 600 locations nationwide. The Hanger company rep I spoke with said that a minority of those locations have any experience with cranial bands, and a smaller percentage still have a great degree of experience with banding. The rep would not give me a list of locations that she knows provides bands, unfortunately. However, because they have such a large number of locations, it is always worth a shot to recommend to group members to check out the Hanger facility locator at www.hanger.com and research if there are any banding locations nearby. I'm terribly sorry that this option wasn't mentioned to you; I personally didn't know Hanger banded out there, and when you joined and posted that was nearly 18 months (meaning only the DOCband would consider banding a baby that age) and you were flying to Cranial Tech, it didn't dawn on me to recommend to you to check out Hanger in case you wanted to research some info from your area to post to the group and database for parents of younger babies to consider. I think it has only been the last couple of days that people from the Seattle area have called around to those Hanger locations to get the information for themselves to see if they offer the Hanger Cranial Band or Starband. I don't think any of the responses to Amy or Diane covered any knowledge about treatment there (other than the Clarren, which is already listed in the Database.) I do hope that this new Seattle information that Amy and Diane have uncovered is added soon! I also contacted Orthomerica back when I started the Database to see if they would tell me what locations nationwide offered their Starband at the time, but they would not share this info. I had to be a parent of a baby considering the Starband, and provide them with my address, and they would tell me if there were any Starbands near me. This just goes to emphasize your point that the group relies heavily on shared info from our members since we are unable to procure this information through other channels!! I try to post once a month to cast a net for new members who may be going to a non-listed facility, so your post is a perfect springboard to remind the group. Guest guest
, I also checked the database for the locations you mentioned as outtages, and the Oregon locations are indeed already in there, so they don't need to be added unless you were talking about locations other then Portland and Eugene, Oregon. Only the Clarren from Seattle Children's is listed for the entire state of Washington, so hopefully we will get some detailed info from Amy or Diane about these potential locations. Guest guest
Thanks, Christie. No one ever mentioned Hangar to me. I thought to look them up yesterday after Diane's post, and sure enough, a huge list of facilities came up. I called the Bellevue office and they said they have no experience with the cranial helmets, but they could do the casting there, then referred me to the Portland office. They gave the name of the fellow who has been such a topic of conversation lately, whose initials are R.R. (can't remember his name right now) as the most experienced guy they had in the Pacific Northwest. I called the number they gave me and apparently it was a different office from R.R.'s. The woman I spoke with couldn't even pronounce " plagiocephaly " and couldn't tell me anything about the helmets or how they worked (I was asking if they are active or passive). I asked about the Hanger Band and she said, " It isn't a band, it's a helmet, looks like a football helmet. " I asked to speak to someone with more experience, and a man called me back a few hours later. He said the helmets are made by Danmar. He also said that Hanger doesn't have a " Hanger Band, " just that people sometimes call it a Hanger Band because of the well-known name " StarBand. " He said they didn't use the Starband. He said the Danmar helmet was a helmet, not a band, and he thought it might be useful on a baby up to 18 months but that was pushing it. He didn't seem very confident or experienced so I was very glad I went to Cranial Tech in the first place. But it would have been a very big deal for me to see this info in the database. I bet Diane, Alyssa's Mommy, would have appreciated it instead of having to find out everything on her own. Her child is at a good age for almost any kind of band. What is the point of having this board if each new member has to start from scratch? Again I appeal to all of you, start putting in the information you have. Even if we just put " www.hanger.com " under each state that has a facility, it would help the next frantic mommy trying to find some info. Guest guest
, When I came to the group just about 1.5 years ago, there was not even a database here! Christie worked very hard to get that info for new members to use. I think it has helped greatly for us moderators to not have to remember what treatment is where. I personally am pleased with the way it has taken shape. I am sorry that you didn't find use of the database for treatment of your son. Are you not happy with the banding treatment you decided on for ? Dustie --- In Plagiocephaly , " tortibaby " <sugrill@j...> wrote: > Hate to sound rude, but crap, people!
