Guest guest
I was wondering...I am due to see a cranialfacial surgeon (In Hollywood Florida, I think many of you know where I mean although I cant SPELL the DRs names) When I called them they asked if any ct scans of my son had been done. SO I was wondering is this usually done?? I imagine it is to rule out the early closure of those bones but my sons ped ( who is against all this) has felt his head and says its not that craniosynostosis (SP?) will they (the specialists) order these scans to be sure ??? I am wondering. I have so much time to think about all this before the appointment July 19 so i might be on with many questions. Thanks in advance and Christian G
Guest guest
, Some specialists will order x-rays or ct scans, some won't. I think it depends on the doctor. When my baby was referred to a specialist, the specialist ordered ct scans before our appt, that way I would have the scans with me at my appt for him to read. Maybe you should call and ask if the specialist would like ct scans done? It would save sometime if he did want scans done and you had them with you. > I was wondering...I am due to see a cranialfacial surgeon (In > Hollywood Florida, I think many of you know where I mean although I > cant SPELL the DRs names) When I called them they asked if any ct > scans of my son had been done. Guest guest
I am going through this right now and just asked the specialist and my primary ped the same question... Basically, it is EXTREMELY important that they rule out Craniosynostosis (the premature fusing of the sutures) and/or other brain problems like hydrocephaly (fluid) in case that is causing the asymmetry since they can cause major developmental delays. In certain presentations, like scaphocephaly, they can't just " feel " that it isn't cranio, since the soft spots may actually remain open. Anyway, we had a " regular " CT brain scan to make sure there wasn't fluid ordered by the ped, but will have to do another 3-D scan of the skull to check the sutures for the surgeon. I suppose that if it is obvious (beyond a doubt) that fused sutures are not involved, they might skip the CT, though it is standard protocol. > I was wondering...I am due to see a cranialfacial surgeon (In > Hollywood Florida, I think many of you know where I mean although I > cant SPELL the DRs names) When I called them they asked if any ct > scans of my son had been done. Guest guest
hmmmmm, I guess maybe I should call. I think they asked ME when I made the appt (although it might have been another specialist) about it. I dont want to prolong things any further. thankshardysmom <stephanie_bonebrake@...> wrote: I am going through this right now and just asked the specialist and my primary ped the same question...
