Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. I'm a little confused you said in another post that Cameron will be getting a STARband and that he'll have to wear it for at least 6 months?? Who told you that? The STARband is an active band and are usually worn for 4-4.5 months. I don't think I've ever heard of a 5 month old baby being in an active band for 6 months. Usually when a baby starts as young as your son is they are done fairly quickly. Do you know how many plagio babies your ortho has treated successfully with the STARband? I don't mean to scare you but these bands and helmets in the hands of an inexperienced ortho can and DO cause more damage. What place are you going to? --- In Plagiocephaly , " leftpaw22 " <leftpaw22@y...> wrote: > Hi! My name is and my son Cameron was diagnosed with tort. > and plagio. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group!! You are not the only one who is worried....believe me. This group helps ease the mind though. My son Cole is also going to be getting banded soon, within the next few weeks. He is also getting a STARband ( I think ). I have heard that the most important thing about STARband is finding a good orthotist. Check in the database for orthotists in your area and interview them, decide who you are comfortable with and who has the most experience. Ask how many bands they have handled, what training they have had, things like that. Actually Orthomerica has a list of questions to ask orthotists, you can find it on their web site, there might even be a link to it here. I was worried about going with the STARband at first because I had heard they had alot of fitting problems, but several people have reassured me that the orthotist we will be using is excellent, and that the fitting problems aren't because of the band type, but because of the orthotist. So we go on Wednesday to meet him and make our final decision if we are going to use STARband or not. My first thought was to use Cranial Technologies, because all they handle is cranial molding unlike STARband orto's, so I figured they have to be good. I have heard they are great, but due to insurance and travel time I have decided to meet this orthotist, and then make up my mind. As far as wearing the band for 6 months, I was told that my son could possibly have to wear it for 4 to 6 months, but that it all goes according to how he is progressing. The best advice I can offer is do your research. Find out what is avaliable in your area and check them all out. I know that time is important, but don't rush into this thing blind find out what is best for your child. I have heard of babies much older than ours showing great correction, so a week or two of research can't hurt. , mommy to Eden and Cole ( Bracky Baby ) Florida > Hi! Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group! My son was in STARband for almost 6 months, but he was 7 months old when we started and never hit a growth spurt during his entire treatment time. He biggest growth spurt occured the 2 weeks between scanning and the fitting. I am surprised that your orthotist told you that Cameron will be banded for that long at his younger age. I hope that he his giving you his worst case scenario? My biggest advice for you and your son is to buy a lot of 91% alcohol to clean the band, buy lots of cool stickers to decorate it (if you go with a plain band!), educate everyone you can about plagio- especially the people who ask " why " and most of all, enjoy the band free head NOW! It will be a number of months (up to six, LOL) before you will really be able to snuggle with him the same way. - mom to Aidan --- In Plagiocephaly , " leftpaw22 " <leftpaw22@y...> wrote: > Hi!
