Guest guest
Hello Laurie First I want to say welcome to the group. I don't believe I have answered a post from you yet. My daughter Willow had torticollis, and she was in PT, and OT from 4 months on till about 11 1/2months when they officially said that her tort was resolved. I would say though that she was tilt free for about 3months before discharge. We did as much active streching as possible. Have Willow turn her own head. One of the things that I liked, and she did as well was to put her on an excersize ball and have her in front of the mirror. She would try to push up (strenthening her torso) and try to see her self, so she strechd her neck by turning her head. If you do the streching, then I would recomend to probably take the band off for those 5 to 10 minutes. From experience: Willow had fits after that timeframe and we stopped streching her. You can browse through our file section. There are some pretty good things in there. Good luck, and let us know how the fitting goes. Guest guest
Hi Laurie, My daughter didn't have tort, but if I remember correctly they do have you take the band off for stretching. They'll let you know when you pick it up. Let us know how the fitting goes. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad Cape Cod, Ma > Hi everyone, > > My daughter will be getting her DOC band for her plagio. sometime > this week. Guest guest
Laurie, Yes, tort can appear worse from one day to the next. na had tort. It was diagnosed at 3 months and resolved by 13 months. She had a very mild tilt. Most children are monitored until 18 months of age or at least until they are walking well. We are still monitoring na but not through PT. I noticed after illnesses and growth spurts that her tilt was worse. You can see in her DOC Band B & A pics that it looks worse when we ended. Her 7 month growth spurt really put her back. You CT clinician will instruct you to remove the DOC band for her stretches. It makes it easier to do the stretch. We did stretches 5 times a day. We coincided cleaning and bath time with stretches. In all we only had the band off 1 hour each day so little 10 - 15 min bursts of free head. I think it did help with her sweating and keeping it clean. Have you seen the tort tips file? It has lots of active stretching ideas that don't require band removal. My definition of active is the child does the stretch, i.e. by turning her head or righting her head. Passive stretches would be when you turn or tilt her head for her.
