Guest guest
le, I am sorry that you're stressing so much!! I know though, that it's hard to read things less than perfect. My son wasn't in a starband but he did have a passive helmet. He had severe plagio, started wearing the helmet at almost 5 months and just finished it. Though his head shape is not exactly what I was expecting, I am still happy that it is nowhere close to what it was. I don't know why one place does an active and one a passive but if you can have him get more correction with just a little bit longer time in the helmet, it may be worth it. I wish I had that option - my son grew out of his though. I know how you feel about it being stressful, I would bet all of us here have been stressed about this at some point. You may have GREAT correction with the passive Starband.. just don't give up. Guest guest
Hi le-- I completely understand how you feel...but don't be stressed (on top of the existing stress that undeniably goes along with having your baby treated). We interviewed 3 different orthotists (including NOPCO at Children's) before our daughter began treatment and a couple of them (including the neurosurgeon at Boston Children's) made a similar comment when we asked them about the difference between the active and the passive bands. In a nutshell, they basically said that they honestly feel that passive bands are probably a little more " active " than they take credit for and active bands are probably a little more " passive " ! Obviously, there is some difference as there is a difference in the frequency of adjustments and the duration of treatment. But in the end, you are in the hands of very capable orthotists and you are going to see great correction! Personally, I think that the competence of the orthotist and, therefore, the fit of the band are what's most important-especially for a baby as young as your son--and not whether the specific product you are using is active or passive! I really hope that helps you feel less stressed. Hope this isn't too filled with typos--I'm at work and rushing.... Guest guest
Hey le The same thing happened to me on the torticollis board. I would be there sooo much and read everything I could that I totally got overloaded. I wanted to see every doc out there and wanted every test done, but in the end I just took a few days off and calmed down. Maybe slowing down a bit and just not reading any info for a few days might help. It did with me. I certainly do not think that you have made the wrong decision for Jack. He will get great correction at this age regardless of active or passive helmet. Both of them do the job, just in different ways. Hope you feel better soon about everything. ALl this is soo overwhelming that it is only understandable that you are stressed out. Normal reaction. Shows you care and that you are truely thinking about what is right for Jack. ) Sandy Willow's Mom torticollis resolved / Cranio Germany Grad --- In Plagiocephaly , " danirich75 " <danirich75@y...> wrote: > Have you ever heard of reading too much? Guest guest
Hi le, I think you're on information overload . You in no way have made the " wrong " decision for Jack by trying to get him a rounder head. We do talk about the differences between active and passive bands on this site, as it is imperitive that parents of older babies and severe babies factor it into their decision. Some people just flat out don't have alternate choices due to finances, travel, etc. All that really matters is that your ortho is experienced. Jack is only six months old and no matter what type of band he is in, as long as your ortho is experienced, he should see great correction. The whole banding process is very stressful and you don't need these feelings on top of it. You wanted Jack to have a rounder head, and by banding him that's what you're doing. You followed your instincts and Jack will be very greatful to have a proactive mom! And yes, he may be in a passive band a little longer, but does it really matter if you meet your goal of getting him some correction? This group is a great support system and I hope we've been able to make you feel better somewhat! , mom to Hannah, DOCband #3 3/30 Cape Cod, Ma --- In Plagiocephaly , " danirich75 " <danirich75@y...> wrote: > Have you ever heard of reading too much? Guest guest
le, I don't know if you are currently checking posts on the board, but I just wanted to post to let you know that you have made a fine decision about Jack's treatment, and at his age, he will do just fine in his NOPCO helmet! Who knows, he may have some good growth spurts and speed up treatment even more than you have imagined. It was very scary for me when I made the decision to go repo-only to correct Remy's plagio.... although I had tremendous support in my choice here at the group, I sure didn't have a lot of repositioning company, or even repo progress photos of other repo success babies to compare Remy to, but I felt strongly it was the right decision for my daughter! Please have confidence in your decision... and I want to echo everything said in her reply to your post! Take care, Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy) > Have you ever heard of reading too much?
