Guest guest
Hi, Yes, generally speaking, most brachy babies do take a little longer to correct. Reason being they have to grow an entire back of the head! while plagio babes usually have somewhat of an occiput, albeit misshapen. Every case is different of course. It depends alot of severity and age. Nobody could really tell you if she needs more than one band or not until you get her in one for some time. Some see immediate results, others not so immediate. You can check out my handsome brachy, if you haven't already, under D. He's seen great correction in three months wearing the band. It really sounds like you are on the ball and have great treatment centers nearby. Alot of peds too often pooh pooh helmet therapy. You just have to plow ahead (like you are doing now) and seek the best for your daughter. Please, please keep us updated on 's appointments. Guest guest
Hi , There are so many variables when it comes to trying to estimate correction time, it's difficult to say whether brachy babies take longer in a band to correct. The one study out there that compares brachy correction and plagio correction, just says that brachy babies' measurements don't normalize to the same degree as plagio babies owing to the excessive head width at the start of banding. It doesn't say anything about if they spent longer in a band to achieve the correction they received. Sometimes all a baby needs is a great growth spurt or two to dramatically reduce their time in a band, or when repo'ing for that matter. The younger babies usually achieve better and faster correction (those who were banded starting under 6 months of age), but that isn't always a hard and fast rule. Another variable is that in one situation, the parents might be quite satisfied with correction and end treatment, while another set of parents would have gone on with treatment and got a second band, for example. I did take a look at 's pics, and can see the brachy you are talking about. I see the increased head height, and increases head width, but I don't see that her head is very flat in back, like my own daughter's was (literally flat as a board on one side), which I think must be a good thing. I wish I had a more definitive answer for you, Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy) > I can't remember correctly, or if I heard right, but do Brachy > babies take longer to correct in a band? Guest guest
I would've taken the gift! Seriously, I'm so sorry for all of the delays you have had. I know that you need SOMEONE to write you the script in order to get it. Can you schedule the appointment with CT now for some time in mid to late Sept.? Can't the neurologist write the prescription on 9/9 (our neuro. did)? I can't remember if you already had regular xrays taken. That is all that our neuro needed to look at. I'm sorry I cannot remember all of 's details but I know you had told us before. As you can tell, I am so impatient and I understand your anxiety and frustration completely. I hope I am not making it worse for you. If so, I apologize! I think that it just depends on how fast a brachy baby grows as to how long it will take and every baby is different. It also may have to do with there not being prominent pressure points as there are in plagio shaped heads?? I'm not sure, but someone else here will have a better answer on that issue. Colin started at 9 mos. old and after 4 weeks you could see results (see photo under Colin F.) I'm hoping for a 3-4 month treatment period but again everyone is different. Are you still taking progress pictures of your repo'ing efforts? Take care Sue Colin F. 10 mos.
