Guest guest
, There are some parents who seek more improvement with a second helmet. My daughter has moderate plagiocephaly and was banded at 7 months old. She has been in the band for about 6 weeks and we have seen improvement. My husband have agreed that this will be her only band. Treatment costs and the fact that she will have long hair as a girl are factors in this decision. Of course if the doctor deems it medically necessary to prevent TMJ, ear and eye problems, then we will pursue another band. A slight assymmety, in my opinion, will not be noticed by people or make her self-conscious. Honestly, I doubt that any of us are perfectly aymmetrical. Yes, a second band might be needed for some children but there's a lot of factors that work into that decision. My daughter's hair has not been affected by the band. Guest guest
, I see you have gotten a warm response and some good replies. About getting a 2nd band, Dr. Wood never prescribes a 2nd helmet (that I am aware of). When the child outgrows it, he simply states to let nature do the rest (frustrating for parents like me who KNOW their child needs a 2nd band). If you feel Milan needs a 2nd helmet after the CranioCap, pursue it immediately, even a month before he is about due to be done w/ it. At least you can get the paperwork and the ball rolling on either a DocBand or Hanger/Starband or another brand, and if by the end of the CranioCap you are satisfied w/ the results, you can always cancel the appts for casting for the new helmet. You might need a letter of medical necessity from a doc for a 2nd band for insurance purposes, but whomever you choose to do the 2nd helmet will let you know what your insurance requires. Jaden's hair has been slow growing except for the top of his head where the opening was. But it did grow. Jaden also had moderate/severe plagio. Hope this helps! ~Amy, Mommy to Jaden 9 mo's MN > I have a few questions after skimming some posts… > Is it a common thing to get another band after the first one? > What would be the necessity for this? > Is it usually for children w/ severe Plagio? > I have just seen it mentioned multiple times and am curious if I > should expect to be done after this first band or maybe keep in mind > that he may need more help… > And also, (this may sound silly), but is hair growth affected by the > caps/bands at all? > My son is just starting to grow hair back again and was not sure if > this would change that at all. > > Thanks! > > Milan – 5mos Plagio > Twin Cities, MN
Guest guest
Hi , My daughter needed 3 bands, but her plagio was classified as very severe. We have severity assessments in our links section if you're unsure of Milan's severity. Also, some parents may switch the type of helmet their child is in. Hair growth should not be affected by band use as long as you closely monitor for red spots and are able to prevent skin breakdown. , mom to Hannah, DOCgrad 7/29 Cape Cod, Ma > I have a few questions after skimming some posts… > Is it a common thing to get another band after the first one? > What would be the necessity for this? > Is it usually for children w/ severe Plagio? > I have just seen it mentioned multiple times and am curious if I > should expect to be done after this first band or maybe keep in mind > that he may need more help… > And also, (this may sound silly), but is hair growth affected by the > caps/bands at all? > My son is just starting to grow hair back again and was not sure if > this would change that at all. > > Thanks! > > Milan – 5mos Plagio > Twin Cities, MN
Guest guest
Hi My son has the same shaped head and I think he will only need 1 band even though he started at 9 mos. old. His hair growth has not been affected at all. He is finally growing some! Sue Colin F. 10 mos.
