Guest guest
Dear Krissy, We picked up my son Jack's helmet today, April 20, and it is a STARband. He was casted on April 5. The orthotist had to do a good bit shaving off of the helmet where it came down too low on his forhead/cheek area. He also had to remove some around his ears. There is a gap where his flat spot is, but overall the helmet seemed tighter than I expected since many have thought there helmet started out loose. We did not get the helmet until 5 PM so I am counting tomorrow as day 1. I am dreading it. HE wore it twice today, both times less than an hour. Jack is the most laid back baby ever, he did not even cry when the casting was done. He has sobbed with the helmet and the sweat just pours off his head. There are a couple of red spots that appear at the "pressure" points, but they disappear within 10-15 minutes of removal. Do you think we have a problem? Is this normal for the first week? and Jack 12/9/04 twin ASTARband cast April 5STARband begun April 20Greenville, SC
Guest guest
Hi - I am a new mom to all of this too. I don't have the knowledge to answer your questions since my son had the helmet on for only 3 days and he needs a new helmet because Orthmerica screwed up with the dimensions or it was the Orthodist. I would call my Orthotist tomorrow. I have heard babies need several fittings before it is right. It is a good sign that the red spots disappear after 10-15 minutes. I am so sorry about Jack sobbing. You must be sick about all of this like I am. We have had a horrible time with this. was casted 20 days ago, got the helmet 3 days ago, was told today to stop wearing the helmet because the dimensions are wrong, and now we may have to go through another casting and wait on a new helmet!!!! It has been a horrible path and I only wish there was another way for these babies to get fixed. Do you have photos of Jack on this website? Guest guest
Dear Krissy, I just read your updates, and I pray that God will guide your future decisions. Jack did better today, but we are still behind on the suggested schedule. He wore the helmet four times today: 30 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, and 40 minutes. I think the helmet fits once it is on, but it takes me about four tries each time to get it on in the first place. I hope I get better about it, because that induces a good bit of the crying. I posted pictures under Jack R. I don't have any good pictures of his flat spot. We have already seen a little improvement with repo, but not as much as we wanted. Good luck. I will continue to follow your story. and Jack 12/9/04 twin ASTARband cast April 5STARband begun April 20Greenville, SC
Guest guest
Dear Krissy, Thanks! Jack is four months old. Our orthotist measured BEFORE the cast and DURING the cast. Not sure why. I also keep forgetting to ask what his measurements were. I did notice that Jack's helmet does not come down on his cheeks like 's does. Is that part of the fit problem? Did it take you multiple tries to get the helmet on each time? Since Jack is not sitting up yet, it is hard to hold him up and open the helmet and get it on. I'm afraid I'm going to hurt his neck in he process. and Jack 12/9/04 twin ASTARband cast April 5STARband begun April 20Greenville, SC In a message dated 4/21/2004 11:03:14 PM Eastern Daylight Time, krissycook@... writes: Hi -I just took a look at your photos and Jack is adorable!!!
