Guest guest
Hey , I don't know much about Hanger, but I thought I'd post what I know to get you started. Right now I think we have several babies going to Hanger facilities, but I don't know of any going to the Maine location. Hanger has hundreds of locations nationwide, since it is a large orthotics and prosthetics company. A minority of locations offer cranial banding, and a smaller proportion have a lot of experience in banding (a company rep spoke to me on this subject when I called to see how prevalent plagio treatment was across the whole number of their facilities.) Hanger has their own brand of band, called the Hanger Cranial Band. It is FDA approved, active, and resembles the Starband. I am unsure if Hanger requires specialized training of their own orthotists that use the Hanger Cranial Band, you will have to ask. Hanger's website is www.hanger.com . Some Hanger locations may offer the Starband, by Orthomerica, as well. Orthomerica does not require any training in the Starband for the orthotists to use their product beyond what they learned in obtaining their degrees, but they do offer a voluntary Starband course (you could ask the ortho if he/she has taken it.) Because this business model may not require training, your best bet is a thorough ortho interview about experience overall, experience in the specific band you would like to use, and specialized training. Some Hanger locations have scanning, called " Insignia " , instead of casting. You can try emailing some group members offlist about their experience with Hanger, even though they didn't go to the specific location you're considering. Just go to the Helmet/Band Database in the Database section of the group, and type " Hanger " in the search field in the upper right corner of the database. Anyone willing to be contacted offlist will have their emails listed in the appropriate column. I'm sorry I don't have any personal impressions, but we used aggressive repositioning only. Would you let me know how your options research progresses? Guest guest
Christie, I meet with Hanger on Tuesday, and I'm going down to CT on Wednesday. The Hanger facility we're going to is actually in New Hampshire. I know, that seems weird, but we live right on the border! I'll let you know Tuesday how that visit goes. I know from talking with them on the phone that this facility has a scanner, so that leads me to believe they probably use the Starband from Orthoamerica. My big thing is making sure he gets an active helmet and that the orthotist has worked with a lot of plagio cases before. That's one of the reasons we aren't going to use NOPCO at Children's Hospital in Boston. Guest guest
, I'm so happy that you have several choices in your area. I know when we were thinking of helmeting Remy before we went with repo only, there only one option in our whole state of Kentucky, a passive helmet choice! Decisions can be nerve-wracking, but I'm thrilled you have some viable choices. I would love to hear your feedback on both Hanger and CT. I wanted to post really quickly that Hanger has their own scanning system called " Insignia, " which is separate from the Orthomerica " Starscanner " system. I don't know which scanning system that Hanger might be using, but I'm not sure it's absolutely indicative of their offering the Starband. Would you let us know what you find out about what bands are available there? Good luck with your meetings!
