Guest guest
Kym, Why have you cut out so many carbs? Did he have a reaction to fruit? How about some nice ripe bananas, or pear sauce? SCD was never meant to be done without fruit and vegetables. You need to make sure your son is getting enough carbs. Is there a reason you are not using fruit? Guest guest
He has been having pear juice and white grape gelatin desert, cooked pear everyday for snack or desert. We tried ripe banana one day during the intro diet time and he went very quiet for a day, so we stopped banana. I try to avoid apple sauce and grape because I was told they feed yeast. I avoid pineapple because his IgG show some sensitivity to pineapple and he doesn't like pineapple. Kym Re: I don't know what to do Kym, Why have you cut out so many carbs? Guest guest
We had been in the very early stage of the diet. Since his bowel movement has always been great, I have baked pecan/hazelnut..cookies for him. I give it to him may be once every couple days with enzymes because I afraid he will develop high IgG if he has these nuts everyday. I think he will develop high sensitivities to nut easily base on his history. Kym Re: I don't know what to do Kym, Have you tried pecan, hazelnuts, or brazilnut butters as an alternative to the almond? Blessings, Doreen asd 12, scd day 12 I don't know what to do Dear friends, I don't know what to do. First of all, my son in only on SCD for 4 weeks. Because the carbs are totally cut out. We are using lots of meat plus veggies. He only do well the first 9 days. Then he was having trouble with allergy symptoms for 2 weeks. After the allergy was over, we didn't see much progress in his language. He weight gain was slow although okay. We believe that it's the protein and the fat comes with the meat that maintain this little bit of weight gain. Your suggestions are appreciated. Guest guest
We have been using enzymes even before starting SCD. For now, he is on the Houston's enzymes. He has been on different types of probiotice. This week, we switched to the Nature's Life Milk Free Acidophilus. I am kind of uneasy with that because of the pea and fermented carrot they put in there. I am not sure if it's good to have him take carrot and pea everyday in the probiotic. I am just scared because he may develop food sensitivity to these if he takes it everyday in an empty stomach. I think nuts are not only high on fat but also high in protein too. These may stress the kidney when combining with the meat (now decreased by half) intake he has. We do have him take veggie, even more now then the last few weeks. He does have a very complete vitamins, essential fatty acids, and minerals program in place. Kym Re: I don't know what to do Kym, As Sue said, SCD was never meant to be a diet that consists of mostly protein. It should be a well-balanced diet with fruits and veggies as well. Have you started any probiotics? What about a vitamin? How about trying enzymes to help with the breakdown of the veggies and fruit? That may be what is needed to allow more fruits and veggies in the diet. Guest guest
Hi Kym, Could the going " quiet for a day " have been part of the die-off that usually goes with the intro diet. My usual high energy four year old was very subdued/quiet for a day or two on the intro diet. Some people even bake/pan fry (in oil or butter) the ripe bananas to make them even easier to digest. Other foods to try ripe avacado, squash, well cooked green beans (french cut or regular), cooked carrots. How have his bowels been , any improvements changes etc.?
