Guest guest
Hi Fluffy... I had a lot of cramping after my storm, bottoming out hypo, then going on Synthroid.... Can you tell us a bit more about magnesium? How do you tell if you're losing it in the urine? Any symptoms, other than the muscles, that will give a clue to deficiency? I'm starting to get a bit of discomfort in my calves again.... I'd really like to find out if I have to do some boosting of my supps if that's what it is BEFORE I get into full blown cramping and have to stop exercising again! Topper () *who's doubled her walking since getting a pedometer* PS hey! You've not told us how you got your name! hehehehe On Sun, 28 Mar 2004 15:44:52 -0000 " fluffyowl2000 " writes: > Hi..Fluffy here again.. > now on 3/4 grain Armour and building up slowly! Guest guest
Greetings , try this link http://www.mbschachter.com/importance_of_magnesium_to_human.htm Magnesium and calcium supplements have helped my muscle spasms no end..you need at least 300mg of magnesium a day..probably more. If you take too much you get diarrhoea..and know then to cut back on the dose. it needs to be balanced with calcium. Did I tell you that low iron can cause itching..my fluffy brain can't remember if I posted that already! I have three cats..two short hair..one fluffy! best Wishes, Fluffy > Hi Fluffy... > > I had a lot of cramping after my storm, bottoming out hypo, then going on > Synthroid.... > > Can you tell us a bit more about magnesium? Guest guest
....and here is how to test for magnesium deficiency....eek..sounds expensive...however.. my doc took a blood sample and sent it to Biolab in London It only cost £11..so I guess same must be available quite cheaply in US and would give you some ides of mag. levels. Mag. testing With the exception of magnesium deficiency due to urinary losses, a magnesium challenge test is usually the best available method of assessing body stores. A baseline urine is obtained and magnesium chloride or magnesium sulfate 0.2 meq/kg body weight is given intravenously over a 4 hour period. A second urine is begun at challenge and continued over a 24 hour period. Deficiency is defined as less than 80% excretion of the amount of challenged magnesium. (37) Sublingual epithelial cell magnesium has been shown to correlate with tissue magnesium in atrial biopsy specimens. (38) However myocardial magnesium may fail to correlate with skeletal magnesium, (39) thus limiting the ability of the test to suggest the adequacy of total body stores. The recent development of an ion-selective electrode has made the measurement of ionized magnesium possible. However, variations in ionized magnesium in a given type of cell do not necessarily mean that similar changes exist in other cells or in the magnesium pool. As functional and organic disorders may alter the distribution of the ion in the analyzed cell, this measure cannot reliably indicate body magnesium nutriture. (40) Any comments from anyone?
