Guest guest
Or would that be anytime you increase and symptoms get worse, you immediately do another increase? Thanks Debbie K. Increase question So you need to increase, but don't we increase slowly? I've seen where an increase is recommended after the first week, then only every four to six weeks after that. So is this increase after only a week recommended when initially starting armour or when increasing after a long period at a certain dosage? -----Original Message----- From: loboshe The reason your symptoms are returning: your pituitary gland has sensed the introduction of the Armour and it's hormones in your body. So, it's sent a message to your thyroid, via the TSH, to decrease it's production. BUT, your thyroid already has a low production!! SO you are now left with even less than your hypo thyroid was giving you. This is common for folks who aren't on enough.
Guest guest
OK. Here's the scoop on increasing. Most folks, and safely so, start on a low dose to see how their body will react to the T3. That low dose can be 1/4 grain, or 1/2 grain, or even 1 grain. BUT, for the majority of folks, those starting doses are just that--- " starting " doses. And if you stay on a starting dose much longer than a few weeks, your hypo WILL return with a vengeance because you are underdosing yourself!! SO yes, after that starting dose, and after you've been on it a few weeks you do need to start increasing. (My first doc was SO uninformed that she kept me on 3/4 grain for NINE weeks!! And I didn't know better either. SO I starting having problems the third week, and it was REALLY obvious when I started my periods---ugh!! I felt AWFUL!!!) But after you are on that " starting " dose, the subject of increasing is a delicate issue on this forum. If you are self-treating, there are some who can increase every week or two, and with no problems. There is a doc out there who increases his patients on Armour every week, until they get up to 2 grains. Then he slows down to give the T4 time to build and to see the results. Makes complete sense to me. BUT...........there are some on this forum who come on and want to self-dose, and we have no way of knowing if they are going to have a bad reaction to the T3 in Armour.....especially due to the need for adrenal support. We've had two specific gals here who had BAD reaction---and if they had been increasing that fast, no telling what might have happened. ALSO......even if you didn't have an adrenal issue, and many do not, you could have Mitral Valve Prolapse, or a hidden heart issue. And increasing every week as mentioned above could be a problem. SO, to me..the bottom line is this: If.....after starting on Armour (let's say one grain), you've had no palps or bad reaction, I see no problem in raising 1/4 grain every week until you get up to 2 grains or so, then taking more time with each increase.
