Guest guest
Kathy, I know what you mean. Because bananas do not directly affect Luke unless they are black/brown inside (what I'd been using to make popsicles), I feel I have to let him have them, but we're down to 1-2 a day. He's doing great right now, so I'm not pulling bananas. That article explained that banana pulled sulfur from their already depleted resources, and low sulfur is the problem causing the phenol reactions (this is WAY simplified), so I'm ordering Kirkman's epsom salt cream to start replenishing that sulfur, and allowing bananas with limits. in NC Mom of Luke, age 5, Asperger's/low-salicylate; , age 3, healthy; and , 19 mos, healthy All SCD since 1/26/04 banana I am wondering why banana is such a problem with these kids with phenol problems if it always lists as low on the charts or even 0.00. ? Is it the sugar in the banana that is a problem? I feel there a lot of foods on SCD and it is doable but with these PST problems that doesn't leave much for some of us mom's to feed our kids? Does anyone else agree? I am frustrated with the choices I have for Abby right now. I know I have a choice of using " no-fenol " but feel I need to get all these other supplement and food issues worked out first. I made her pancakes with 3 eggs, pecan meal, baking soda, salt, and pureed carrot this morning............she hated them!!!!!! Help! Guest guest
, I have been using that cream for a long time once a day. I think I will switch to two times. Maybe I'll leave out the B.for a few days and see if there is a difference. I bought a HUGE papaya yesterday on sale. Cut it up, cooked it and pureed it into papaya sauce. Abby really like it. Guest guest
Hey Kathy, Try adding a little sweetener and vanilla flavoring . Or add a little pear to the egg to make a pancake with a little cinnamon. Sorry , I remember how tough it can be. hang in there, Angie -----
Guest guest
, Hi again, I have to tell you after taking out banana and pineapple jello today that Abby was an angel! She did not pick her fingers at all today, she was sweet, no hitting on herself, very talkative. She ususally says one or two words together and last night she knew I was upset over something and she said " what's the matter with you, are you sick or something? " It blew my mind. Then she came and hugged me and said " don't cry " . I don't think I will ever forget that moment. I feel positive about this diet when I see good things like that. It's been hard but know in my heart that she needs to be on this limited diet and she will continue to make progess. I want to thank you so much for all the help with the phenol issue. Kathy, mom of Abby-9, ASD, UC and SCD since 2-21-04 p.s that is very cute how your son asks for his custard! banana > > > I am wondering why banana is such a problem with these kids with phenol problems if it always lists as low on the charts or even 0.00. ?
