Guest guest
My 3 month old has a moderate flat spot on her left side. My mother and aunt are suggesting that I place her in her crib with her head straight up between two 5lb. bags of sugar. My aunt claims she did this with her daughter over 30 years ago and her technique was successful. I'm extremely hesitant to do this as it seems so brutal and possibly harmful. However, I am desperate and have not had any luck with other recommendations since my infant scoots out of wedges and other repo apporoaches. Do I take their advice or consider it out of date? Please advise... Thank you!!
Guest guest
Hi, I can understand the intent your aunt had with her own daughter, but I'm not sure I could recommend this technique for safety reasons. You may have already tried this, but have you seen the Repo Set by a Grandma to help with nighttime repo? There is a pic of this in the files/repo headquarters/repo photos folder. She made a snug-fitting vest to go over the baby's sleeper, and then velcroed a small, firm pillow to one side of the back of the vest to keep the baby tipped up off of the flat area. The idea is to make something the baby can't scoot away from! Other parents gave it a try to sew a bag of rice to one side of the back of a sleeper, or even a small foam wedge, to achieve the same result. Does your baby scoot completely out of the sleep positioner, or does she just keep getting back onto her back from a tipped up position? I may have some other ideas if she is staying in the positioners, but keeps turning back onto her flat area inside them. How is repositioning coming along for your daughter so far? Are you having good luck during the daytime? We have lots of ideas and products here at the site in the links/repo and tummy time, as well as the files/repo headquarters folders when you get a chance to browse around. Would you let me know if I can be of any help at all with your repo efforts? Take care, Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy) > My 3 month old has a moderate flat spot on her left side. Guest guest
I think we'll try the positioner idea first and see if she scoots completely out of the positioner. If so (most likely the case), then we'll possibly try the vest idea. I wonder if this would work with the Halo Sleepsak that she wears in bed. It isn't as snug as a vest, but may provide enough support. Maybe I'll just use velcro to attach a piece of foam or a firm pillow?? I'm liking this idea and will let you know how our various techniques work out. Thanks for your support! Leah > > My 3 month old has a moderate flat spot on her left side. Guest guest
Leah, We had na sleeping in Halo sleep sacks too. I was going to attach a foam support with velcro to her left side. I never got it completed before she got her band. I'm not that talented with the sewing maching. I was actually working on it very late one night and attached the velcro to the wrong side - oh I was so mad Let me know how it goes. mom to nasimonsays2444 <leah.simon@...> wrote: I think we'll try the positioner idea first and see if she scoots completely out of the positioner.
