Marisa: Coconut oil (also called coconut butter) is also great to cook with and an anti inflammatory. I get it at Whole Foods when it's on sale. I use it to make yummy omelets. Jodi is right about the spices. I had to throw just about everything I have away. You have to be especially careful with things like onion and garlic powder or spice mixes because most of it has a starch added to keep it from clumping but it isn't listed on the ingredients (grrr wishing they'd make them list EVERYTHING no matter how minute on the labels). My immersion blender is great for making big batches of soup. I got the cheapo brand at Wal Mart. I wish I could buy organic all the time; it's very expensive. My local growers don't grow a variety of fruits and the farmer's markets are only open on Saturdays but I do get as much as I can from them. I

haven't bought chicken in months because I'm worried about broth being added to it and it's just too expensive at Whole Foods. Vanilla Extract is very expensive at Whole Foods (we don't have Trader Joe's) so I bought some vanilla beans online (at least 6), split and put them in a quart sized mason, filled the jar with vodka, shake it every couple days, and on May 15 I should have homemade vanilla extract. But Jodi is right, I use A LOT of it. Last week in sincere naivete I waltzedinto Bed Bath and Beyond and grabbed a cart- shot straight for thedept with the food processors and I ALMOST FAINTED at the price!! So,I just don't know. Obviously, there are more important things in lifethan obsessing about this- at least that is what I try to tell myself.I have an immersion blender and a regular blender but at times I thinkit would be a really nice machine to have. To make homemade nutbutters- which I cannot do in the blender at all!! Quite the disasterand I think I took a couple of years off of my lovely blender's lifespan.I shop at Trader Joes and at Whole Foods.I like to buy local and organic if I

can.I find staple food items that I use all the time;(These are only my suggestions of course none of these brands are amust at all! I only speak for myself and I usually try to buy organicand that is not a must AT ALL on SCD) Also, my suggestions aren'tabout the stages of the diet as well so keep that in mind. As youmight not be able to eat these things.Good quality extra virgin olive oil (surprising how much cooking Ihave done and how much I have used of this precious elixir.)Vanilla extract- get an organic brand. Like "Frontier" or "SimplyOrganic" the one with grain alcohol is legal as well as the one withglycerine. Make sure there is no sugar or additives or flavorings!Check your spice cabinet for spice mixes- most probably illegal- Iwouldn't take a chance with a spice mixture. Get the plain spices andherbs and make your own. My brother recently bought me a mortar andpestle as a gift on his

last trip to India. I must say this calls forquite a bit of elbow grease- it's fab though.. I plan on using it moreas I feel better and have more energy.Good quality organic Honey.Sometimes there is good pasture fed meat in the meat department atWhole Foods and it is marked on the Label on the top as "Pasture Fed"although this can be quite pricey. I also really like the organicgrass fed butter.Trader's has excellent cheeses, nuts, oils. I check the cheesescarefully at Trader's since I have had experiences with them that whenI come home I see the cheeses are totally moldy. Trader's always gaveme a full refund when something like this happens. Although I don'teat much of this stuff. But, my hubby is also on SCD and bless himand his appetite so I buy a lot of that stuff there.Good Luck..With my 2 cents worth..I'm sure you'll get some better suggestions!JodiSCD 6
