Guest guest
Sheila, it is sure understandable why you are so worried! Your story abour your dear sister brings up a few questions. Do you guys have family members with a history of heart disease and/or high blood pressure? Was her blood pressure high before she started on Armour, or before her thyroid was removed? Janie > My sister is hypothyroid - had her thyroid removed completely 1 year ago. She has developed very swollen ankles which are bright red in colour and there is no pitting. I have heard of myxedema fluid infiltration of tissues and I wonder if this the problem. Also, yesterday, she went to visit the nurse for the usual check up and she was found to have a BP of 195/109. This is really dangerous. Does anybody know if this red swollen non pitting ankles and such a high BP could be anything to do with adrenals please > > She takes 2 grains of Armour and the usual supplements and she has just finished a course of Adrenolyph Plus. I am SO worried. > > Sheila > >
Guest guest
I just did some research and found the following: " In non-pitting edema, which usually affects the legs or arms, pressure that is applied to the skin does not result in a persistent indentation. Non-pitting edema can occur in certain disorders of the lymphatic system such as lymphedema, which is a disturbance of the lymphatic circulation that may occur after a radical mastectomy, or congenital lymphedema. Another cause of non-pitting edema of the legs is called pretibial myxedema, which is a swelling over the shins that occurs in some patients with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid gland). Non-pitting edema of the legs is difficult to treat. Diuretic medications are generally not effective, although elevation of the legs periodically during the day and compressive devices may reduce the swelling. " Your sister is probably very underdosed on only 2 grains of Armour, but.......the high blood pressure is a concern against raising it. It also says " The most common systemic diseases that are associated with edema involve the heart, liver, and kidneys. Guest guest
<<. Do you guys have family members with a history of heart disease and/or high blood pressure? << No, not at all, there has never been anybody in the family with high BP or history of heart disease. That is why I cannot understand where this came from. >>Was her blood pressure high before she started on Armour, or before her thyroid was removed?<< No, even up to 2 months ago when she last had her BP taken, it was absolutely normal. All of us have tended to have low blood pressure. This is really weird!! Hope to tell you more tomorrow as she has an appointment with her GP Luv - Sheila
