As far as the accuracy of a scan goes, when Hannah was digitized,

they talked about the resolution of the cameras being very

important. The higher the resolution the better the quaility.

Especially if you look at Hannah's face in her digitzer pic (in her

folder) you can really see that her facial features are definitely

not as defined as they would be w/an actual cast (not that they cast

the face, lol, but for the sake of an example!). If you've ever

done a plaster mold of your baby's hand or foot from one of those

kits it's amazing--you can even see the wrinkles in baby's skin!

I'm sure a computer could never generate something so exact. CT is

working on making their digitzers that they will actually use in

clinics with much higher resolution cameras than was used on Hannah

to help capture these smaller detais, like suture ridges in heads

and parts of the ears. You could defnitely see where Hannah's ears

are in the scan we had done, but you don't have that level of fine

detail. Another thing they do to help improve the accuracy is

overlaying a few scans to be sure the scan doesn't miss any small

areas, like the tip of the nose or something. There would be a

magin of error in both methods really, but as long as the cast is

done correctly (allowed to dry long enough, etc)I should think it

would certainly the most accurate possible. However, I do think

scanning will be the wave of the future for sure b/c it allows you

to look at the facial features as well.

, mom to Hannah, DOCgrad tomorrow!
