Guest guest Posted February 9, 2005 Report Posted February 9, 2005 Bridget -- I am not qualified to review the book " The Fluoride Deception " because I have read so many books on the subject that they all run together for me. Since I lent my copy to my son, I do not even have it here to refer to. Instead, here is one of the six reader reviews from Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1583225269/ qid=1107952987/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-1872067-3528142? v=glance & s=books & n=507846 all of whom gave the book five stars: > After my dentist told me that the white spots on my childs teeth may > be due to fluoride, I started researching how this could be possible. > What an ants nest. How is it that we are so complacent to this > neuro-toxin in our water? In addition, this is a riviting tale and an > amazing feat of investigative journalism. A MUST read for any parent > living in a fluoridated area. Our government doesn't always know best, > as was the case with asbestos, lead, tobacco, and the food pyramid. > Your health and well being is in your own hands. I purchase bottled > water now (and am happy to report I nursed which prevents fluoride > from getting to the child - mother nature knows best.) Highly > recommended to parents trying to keep their child as healthy and > chemical free as possible. And here are the Editorial Reviews from Amazon: > Editorial Reviews > Concerns over fluoridated drinking water have long been derided as the > obsession of McCarthyite cranks. But this muckraking j’accuse asserts > that fluoride is indeed a dire threat to public health, one foisted > upon the nation by a vast conspiracy—not of Communist agents, but of > our very own military-industrial complex. Investigative reporter > Bryson revisits the decades-long controversy, drawing on mountains of > scientific studies, some unearthed from secret archives of government > and corporate laboratories, to question the effects of fluoride and > the motives of its leading advocates. The efficacy of fluoridated > drinking water in preventing tooth decay, he contends, is dubious. > Fluoride in its many forms may be one of the most toxic of industrial > pollutants, and Bryson cites scientific analyses linking fluoridated > drinking water to bone deformities, hyperactivity and a host of other > complaints. The post-war campaign to fluoridate drinking water, he > claims, was less a public health innovation than a public relations > ploy sponsored by industrial users of fluoride—including the > government’s nuclear weapons program. Legendary spin doctors like > Bernays exploited the tenuous link between dental hygiene and > fluoridation to create markets to stimulate fluoride production and to > prove the innocuousness of fluoride compounds, thereby heading off > lawsuits by factory workers and others poisoned by industrial fluoride > pollution. Bryson marshals an impressive amount of research to > demonstrate fluoride’s harmfulness, the ties between leading fluoride > researchers and the corporations who funded and benefited from their > research, and what he says is the duplicity with which fluoridation > was sold to the people. The result is a compelling challenge to the > reigning dental orthodoxy, which should provoke renewed scientific > scrutiny and public debate. > Copyright © Business Information, a division of Elsevier > Inc. All rights reserved. > > Product Description: > > A chronicle of the abuse of power and of the manufacture of > state-sponsored medical propaganda, The Fluoride Deception reveals how > military and industry scientists and public health officials buried > information about fluorides potential for human harm, while promoting > its use in dentistry. > > The Fluoride Deception reveals that fluoride pollution was the > greatest legal threat facing the wartime Manhattan Project. And the > book documents how a secretive group of powerful industries, who all > faced extensive litigation for fluoride pollution, collaborated with > the Institute of Dental Research to launder fluorides image. Well meet > the dissident scientists who warned us about fluoride from the > beginning. Well sit with the famous doctor whod alerted America in the > 1950s to the dangers of cigarette smoking, who reported that fluoride > was a systemic poison, with tens of thousands of citizens uniquely > sensitive to even tiny doses. Well walk the cobbled streets of Donora, > Pennsylvania, in the shrouded aftermath of the nations most notorious > air pollution disaster in 1948, and meet the scientist who blamed > -fluoride for the deaths. > > Today, that scientist joins a growing number of health experts who > call fluoride a venomous and hydra-headed poison. They suspect its > involvement in a host of modern illnesses, including arthritis, bone > cancer, and emphysema, and a spectrum of central nervous system > disorders such as Alzheimers disease and the epidemic of attention > deficit disorder sweeping Americas children. > > Bryson is an award-winning Columbia Journalism > School-trained investigative reporter and television producer. After > reporting on Guatemalan Army human rights abuses from Central America > in the late 1980s for the BBC World Service, National Public Radio, > and The Atlanta Constitution, he won a Polk Award for work at > Public Televisions The Kwitny Report. In 1998, he was part of a team > that won a National Headliner award at ABC News Productions for a > History Channel documentary on the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Hope this helps.
