Guest guest Posted February 23, 2004 Report Posted February 23, 2004 Hi and EveryOne, I too am a " night person " and evidently was born that way because my mother told me that even as an infant that I preferred to be awake at night. However I am beginning to think that going to bed so late and sleeping in the morning causes problems in the bio-rhythms that control the secretion of endocrine hormones. Therefore I am experimenting with ways to get a good nights sleep at a reasonable hour. The two most effective sleep supplements for me are a small dose of Melatonin about 1mg. or 5HTP. I think you can get both in the health food store and on line. Melatonin should not be taken if pregnant or nursing! I used to stay up till early morning, then go to bed and sleep lightly until I woke up in the middle of the night and then lie awake for hours and then go into deep sleep from 7am to 10am. I wasn't under stress and not worried, anxious or depressed, just Awake. I once went eight months without sleeping at all. Nothing terrible happened but it does make it difficult to fit in with the day people including ones own children. Now I take the Melatonin or 5HTP (one or the other - not both) about 1/2 hour before I want to go to sleep, I fall asleep earlier (around 11 to midnight) and sleep deeply through the night. In the morning I may feel the effects of the supplements so I try to get some sunlight early. I also take my Armour before I even get out of bed..and Adrenal support and a cuppa tea soon after. It is working. I am sleeping at night. I read last night that it is important not to eat late after dinner because that causes the energy surge during the night that can keep you awake. Did you know that it is when we are sleeping at night that the most fat burning occurs? We lose that weight at night! You too will find a way to sleep and if you need a nap when your kids are taking one you probably should take it:-)) Take your sleep the best you can. ........BTW it does get easier:-)) Peace, Love and Harmony, Bev Thyroid-Adrenal Connection: Information and Resources http://www.bestweb.net/~om/thyroid Jump for Joy: Rebound: have fun while you exercise! http://www.bestweb.net/~om/rebound Quote
